About This Pub

Ah, the Bretherton Arms in Chorley – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the moment you step inside. From the reviews I've seen, the staff are real stars, always up for a chat and making everyone feel welcome, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. The food gets plenty of praise too; think hearty burgers and chips on offer daily, and those Sunday roasts that sound like proper home-cooked treats without breaking the bank. It's dog-friendly and nicely kept, so if you're after a casual spot to catch up with friends over a pint, this could be your go-to. On the downside, their website's a bit glitchy, which might leave you scratching your head when trying to sort out details online, and the opening hours look a smidge unreliable with varying times listed. All in all, it's a gem for what it is – not perfect, but full of charm and good vibes for a straightforward pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, just like chatting with old mates.
  • Food's great value for money, with tasty options like burgers, hotdogs, and those brilliant Sunday roasts that hit the spot.
  • It's got a welcoming atmosphere, especially since the new owners took over – perfect for popping in after a long day.
  • Dog-friendly vibes make it a top choice if you're out with your furry friend.
  • The pub's clean and well-decorated, giving it a fresh, refreshing feel that's a nice change from the usual spots.
Cons
  • The website's a bit of a faff with errors, so it's not the easiest way to check out menus or hours online.
  • Opening times seem a tad inconsistent, like the multiple listings for Sundays, which might catch you out if you're planning ahead.
  • It's more of a straightforward, no-frills pub, so if you're after something a bit more upscale or fancy, it might not quite deliver.

Burger & Chips or Hotdog & Chips available daily, with full Roast Meal on Sundays. Basic foodstuffs but not bad for the prices.

We visited second day of reopening after a considerable time closed. Short walk from the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Paul landlord very welcoming and a good local crowd. Ales were settling in the cellar but will be available. Dog friendly. Clean and well decorated, refreshing to see a pub reopened when so many are having to close.
