About This Pub
Ah, The Masons Arms, what a lovely spot it is in York – I can just picture settling in for a pint and a chat with mates. From what I've gathered, the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, which is such a treat in a world of rushed service. The food stands out too; folks rave about the Sunday lunches with plenty of gravy and those fluffy Yorkshire puds, or even a solid beef curry in the beer garden on a quiet afternoon. It's got this rich history as an old stone mason's haunt, with original features that give it that authentic, cosy feel you'd expect from a proper British pub. And if you're out with the dog, it's welcoming all around, which is brilliant for us animal lovers. On the flip side, it does fill up quickly, so if you're eyeing a table for a group, it's wise to plan ahead – no one wants to be turned away after a long walk. Plus, with space being a tad tight, it might not be the best for larger gatherings, and sorting out the opening times could take a bit of effort. All in all, though, it's a gem worth visiting; it's got that perfect mix of tradition and homely vibes that leaves you wanting to come back for more, especially if you're after a solid meal and a good natter in a historic setting.

Lovely Sunday lunch (served till late, unlike many places). Don't even need to ask for more gravy (unlike many places!). Traditional pub vibe and friendly staff. I'd recommend booking if you are a group / want a lunchtime slot as there aren't that many tables (although they have some covered seating outside). Carpark is very small and tight.
What a lovely pub in York. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious, we had a chicken and vegetable soup, goats cheese on toasted ciabatta and beef Sunday roasts, can only recommend. The Yorkshire puddings are amazing! A very dog friendly pub too!
The Mason Arms is a charming, traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From the moment we stepped in, we felt at home among the friendly locals who were gathered to watch the rugby. The pub has a cozy, old-world charm, making it a great place to relax. One thing we appreciated was that it’s a dog-friendly pub, but despite several furry companions being present, they were all well-behaved and didn’t disrupt the experience at all.
We initially considered leaving due to a slightly sticky table, but after mentioning it to the staff, they promptly cleaned it without any issue, which spoke to their attentiveness. As we browsed the menu, we noticed dishes being brought out to other tables, and they looked absolutely delicious—this convinced us to stay for lunch. When our food arrived, it didn’t disappoint. The meat was well-cooked, tender, and full of flavour, complemented by a great selection of sides and trimmings. The portion sizes were generous, making for a satisfying meal. If you're looking for a traditional pub with hearty food and a lively yet laid-back vibe, The Mason Arms is definitely worth a visit.
Stopped in for some lunch on a quiet sunny warm Thursday aft. Lovely little sun trap in a quiet small secluded beer garden by the river. Beef curry off the specials was well presented and delicious. Beer was also well kept and refreshing. Perfect
Went to the Mason's Arms while visiting York with family. We stopped for an evening meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Most of us had the steak and potato pie, which was delicious with fresh vegetables and rich gravy. The meat was plentiful and tender with a good helping of fluffy mashed potato on the side. All meals were very flavoursome and had great portion sizes. There was a great range of drinks all reasonably priced with great customer service, located just outside the walls of the city centre. Would definitely recommend and cannot wait to return!
