About This Pub

Ah, The Mansion Bar & Café – it's one of those hidden gems tucked away in Beckenham Place Park that I've heard mates rave about for its cosy atmosphere and solid grub. From what folks are saying, the coffee's a standout, especially if you're popping in after a wander through the greenery; it's that perfect flat white that just hits the spot. The cakes and teas are spot on too, and if you're in for a proper meal, their roasts come highly recommended – think juicy chicken with garlic butter, fresh veggies, and a decent Yorkshire pudding to boot. The setting's just lovely, with its shabby-chic charm and those sweeping views of the park, making it a brilliant place to kick back and chat over a brew. But, and I say this with a bit of caution, it's not all smooth sailing; there was this one story that left a bad taste, where the team didn't help out someone in a real bind with their diabetes, which is a shame because it highlights how service can sometimes fall short. Plus, being card-only might catch you out if you're not prepared. Overall, it's worth a visit for the good vibes and tasty offerings, but keep in mind it has its ups and downs, so maybe go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a pleasant time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The coffee here is simply brilliant – it's a real treat after a stroll in the park, and pairs perfectly with their delicious cakes and teas.
  • It's got this lovely relaxed, shabby-chic vibe in a stunning mansion building, with gorgeous views across the green space that make it ideal for unwinding.
  • The food options are spot on; think tasty roasts with all the trimmings, like garlic butter chicken and nice Yorkshire puds, plus friendly service that makes you feel welcome.
Cons
  • There was a disappointing incident where staff weren't helpful to someone urgently needing sugar due to diabetes, which really soured the experience for them.
  • It only accepts card payments, so if you're out for a casual day and only have cash, you might find yourself a bit stuck.
  • Recent feedback shows a dip in service quality, with the latest reviews not being as glowing, suggesting it might not always hit the mark.

I was absolutely staggered to see a woman who was clutching a £20 (not realising that Mansion Bar & Cafe only accepted card) when she explained to the lady behind the counter that she had type-1 diabetes and urgently needed some sugar, so asked if she could have a wafer, to be told 'no'! Absolutely appalling - this is precisely why the no-cash decision at places such as park cafes makes no sense. Fortunately a lovely woman stepped in and bought the woman a brownie, but you must wonder why it was necessary? I would suggest that the Mansion Bar & Cafe get their priorities in order, frankly.

I come to Beckenham Place Park Bar and Cafe regularly for its delicious cakes, coffee, tea, and the warm, vibrant atmosphere. This bustling little cafe is my go-to spot whenever I’m in this beautiful green space! The cafe has a relaxed vibe and friendly service, making it a perfect spot to unwind or catch up with friends. I’ve also tried the pizza here and thoroughly enjoyed it – fresh, flavourful, and a great addition to the menu. If you’re visiting Beckenham Place Park, don’t miss out on this gem!

First time visiting The Mansion Bar and Cafe for food - as I usually visit the brilliant Homestead Cafe - also in Beckenham Place Park and I had a lovely roast today. The cafe itself is relaxed and shabby-chic, in the beautiful mansion building, with stunning views across the park. The lady who served us was really friendly and helpful. The prices were reasonable and the food very good indeed: loved my nut roast and the cauliflower cheese was perfect. If I had one suggestion I’d have really liked some more dessert options (was really hankering after a crumble or a pudding with custard) but this is just a small thing and I really had a lovely meal and wouldn’t hesitate to come back for another cosy roast.

Had a lovely roast chicken here today, with garlic butter. Lovely roast veggies, and a nice Yorkshire pudding. Lots of drink options, and some nice sauces. Could maybe do with a crumble or a sticky toffee pudding dessert to cap it off, but the roast was good. The service was great too, and the price was decent.

I haven’t had food here, but coffee is amazing! It’s a perfect treat after a little walk in the park. Can’t think of anything better than spending 30 minutes at the outside table with a good flat white looking out the lovely open space.
