About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the Railway Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway in Lower Sydenham. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars; they're chatty and make everyone feel welcome, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. Whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for a longer session, there's plenty to keep you entertained with games like pool and a football table, plus a jukebox for when the conversation dips. It's especially brilliant if you're a sports fan, as it's spot on for watching matches in a lively setting. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't have hot food ready to go – you might end up ordering in, which isn't ideal if you're starving. And while it's got a solid 4.5 rating overall, things have been a bit quiet on the review front lately, so it could vary depending on the day. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back night out, but maybe plan ahead if you're after more than just drinks and games.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready for a chat and making you feel right at home.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates or even family outings, with loads of entertainment like a pool table, football table, jukebox, and fruit machines to keep things lively.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out – not too steep, so you can enjoy a few pints without breaking the bank.
  • If you're into sports, it's a top spot for watching games, especially for fans of teams like Celtic, making it a real gem for match days.
  • Even if hot food isn't always on offer, the option to order something in is a thoughtful touch that keeps things flexible.
Cons
  • They don't serve hot food on site, which might leave you a bit disappointed if you're after a proper meal with your drinks.
  • The reviews haven't been as frequent lately, suggesting it might not be buzzing as much as it used to, so it could feel quieter on some visits.
  • With the operating hours seeming a tad inconsistent in the details, it's worth double-checking before heading out to avoid any surprises.

Never have I ever ...seen a cat in a pub. What a great experience. A friendly man greeted us at the bar and when I asked about hot food he said there is none but we can order something in -quite a nice thing to hear. A pleasant relaxing pub I shall be travelling to again.

Found this little gem today on the off chance with a friend. What a lovey staff member, didn’t manage to catch his name but was so very nice and chatty, turned up as it opened. Good prices and lots to do especially if you have a family. Has football table, pool table, juke box and fruit machine. Was quiet but lovely. Several locals in and overall this pub was a 5 ⭐️ clean toilets, nibbles at the bar and carling cider was a hit! Lovey pub definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Will definitely pop over again when I’m in the area
