About This Pub

Ah, The Man on the Moon – it's one of those classic pubs in Birmingham that you can't help but appreciate for its straightforward charm. I've got to say, the food really steals the show; those sizzling skillets and burgers are fresh, tasty, and won't empty your wallet, with plenty of options for everyone, including veggies. The staff often go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and it's clear they're part of the community, supporting local causes and offering great deals. It's just the ticket for a laid-back evening with mates, whether you're there for a bite, a pint, or to catch the game. On the flip side, though, the loud TVs can turn a nice catch-up into a shouting match, and the place does show its age with things like messy entrances and dodgy toilets that could use some attention. We've also heard tales of staff not being at their best, with some arguments or a spicy menu overhaul that's put a few people off. All in all, it's got that solid 4.0 rating for a reason – the good bits outweigh the bad if you're up for overlooking a few rough edges, but it's worth checking it out with an open mind.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – think sizzling skillets and flame-grilled burgers that hit the spot without costing a fortune.
  • Staff are generally warm and attentive, making you feel right at home, especially when they're on form like in some of the recent visits.
  • It's a proper community hub with great value deals, fresh ingredients including vegan and veggie options, and even free function space for local groups.
  • Perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates, whether you're tucking into pub grub, watching the sport, or just unwinding in a traditional setting.
Cons
  • The noise from the TVs or music can be a real nuisance, making it hard to have a proper chat, as a few folks have mentioned.
  • The place feels a bit outdated and could do with a good tidy-up – we've heard about cigarette ends and smashed glass outside, which isn't ideal.
  • Some staff interactions can be off-putting, with reports of shouting or rudeness that spoil the atmosphere.
  • The new menu's gone a bit heavy on the spice, and not everyone's a fan, plus there are issues like out-of-order toilets that let things down.

Great food, service very professional and friendly (Marisha) lovely girl. Everything was great except a extremely loud TV by the dining area. Big screen TV is located in other room as well, but this was way too loud. I have had a lengthy conversation with my retired bosses I don't see very often but unfortunately we had to leave a earlier then intended because of the noisy TV. Otherwise the food/service was really great. Thank you.

Avoid. They got a new manu recently which sucks, almost everything is spicy. The staff (which has changed) are walking round shouting, swearing at eachother and customers and they had the music blaring so loud you have to shout your orders. It's a shame because it used to be lovely.

The food was lovely, the staff were lovely and friendly, food came out very quick and staff were very accommodating. However the pub is massively outdated and in need of a refurb. There was cigarette ends in the entrance, smashed glass all around outside. The toilets were mostly out of order and the ones that were in order were broken, doors looked very worn and my toilet seemed to have black mould or something. The carpet had stains everywhere. Aside from the ascetics and worn out places the food was lovely and so were the staff.

Good food decently priced. Server was rather rude when ordering and didn’t display any customer service at all, however it was a rather warm day and the quality of the food and drink was all fine so it isn’t a big issue. Always has had a funny vibe in here so nothing out of the ordinary, however to a visitor from out of town I could see how they’d be concerned.

Nestled in a cozy setting, this establishment offers the perfect ambiance for socializing with friends over a few drinks and timeless tunes. The waitstaff are not only pleasant but also attentive, ensuring a delightful dining experience. What sets this place apart is its incredible value – where else can you savor two hearty meals for just £10? Personally, I find myself drawn to their delectable fish and chips and the mouthwatering gammon steak, which never disappoints. However, the coffee, unfortunately, doesn't meet expectations, leaving room for improvement in that department. Additionally, parking is a breeze, relieving any stress about finding a spot. The spacious tables easily accommodate groups of more than six, making it an ideal spot for gatherings. Plus, the venue's convenient location makes it easy to reach, adding to its appeal. Whether you're catching up with old friends or simply seeking a casual hangout spot, this place comes highly recommended. With its inviting atmosphere, delicious food (except for the coffee), convenient location, and affordable prices, it's a gem worth visiting time and time again.
