About This Pub

Ah, the Great Stone Inn in Birmingham – it's one of those local gems that just draws you in with its welcoming vibe. From what I've gathered from the reviews and a peek at their site, folks are raving about the ale; it's well-kept and hits the spot, making it a go-to for anyone after a proper pint. The service stands out too – it's that friendly, efficient kind that makes you feel like you're chatting with mates behind the bar. Then there are the events; quiz nights and live music on Saturdays sound like a blast, adding a real spark to the place and keeping things entertaining without feeling over the top. Oh, and don't forget the beer garden – it's a lovely spot for a relaxed catch-up when the weather plays ball. On the flip side, it does get crowded during these events, so you might end up jostling for space or waiting a bit longer for your round. The food's meant to be tasty and fresh, but with service stopping at 8pm, it could leave you wanting if you're out late. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out in Northfield; it's affordable, accessible, and has that community feel, but it's worth popping in on a quieter evening if you fancy a more laid-back visit. I'd say give it a go – you'll likely leave with a smile, pint in hand!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The ale is absolutely spot on – well-kept and a real treat, especially if you're a fan of a good pint like John Smith's.
  • Friendly service that makes you feel welcome right away, with staff going the extra mile to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • A buzzing atmosphere with fun events like quiz nights and live music, which really liven up the place and make for memorable nights out.
  • That charming beer garden is a winner on sunny days, offering a relaxed spot to unwind with friends.
  • Prices are reasonable, so you can enjoy a solid meal and drinks without it costing a fortune.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed during events, which might make it tricky to grab a table or hear yourself think.
  • Food service wraps up at 8pm, which feels a tad early if you're planning a later evening bite.
  • One review hinted it could use a few tweaks to reach perfection, like perhaps more variety in the offerings or smoother service on busier nights.

Hadn’t been in this pub for many years, but pleased to say the return visit was a very positive experience. The ale is particularly well kept and I enjoyed a fabulous pint of John Smiths. Didn’t eat, but the food looked good. The pub is friendly and the service was good. What would just make it perfect was if there were real log burners in the fireplaces. Also appears to have a nice beer garden for the summer, though it was too cold to use yet.

What a great pub this is. We went last night for ABBA experience and we had a fantastic time. We danced, we sang and we had a few drinks. The staff were very good, they did everything to make sure quick and smooth service was done. We will definitely come back again. Ps. The ABBA singers were fantastic, well organised and great entertainment. Thank you xx

What a fabulous pub. Went for the 1st time last Saturday night (27-1-24) to meet a few mates and watch the band (Three's A Crowd) they had got on. Pub was packed. Very nice atmosphere, staff were superb and the music was amazing. Will definitely be going again and can highly recommend 👌🏽
