About This Pub
Ah, The Lord Tredegar – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper night out. From what I've gathered chatting about it with mates, the staff are an absolute delight; they're friendly and make you feel like you're part of the furniture right away. The food's a real highlight – think hearty Sunday roasts with options for half portions, which is clever and helps keep things affordable when we're all watching the pennies. They've nailed the drink selection too, with something for everyone, and the pub's got this charming, welcoming vibe that makes it ideal for a casual drink or a bite. Plus, with events like quizzes and chess nights, it's got that community feel that keeps you coming back. On the flip side, though, booking can be a bit of a faff; it might seem scarce online, only to sort itself out in person, which is annoying if you're planning ahead. And the opening times can be confusing if you're relying on different sources, so it's best to confirm. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub lovers – the good far outweighs the niggles, and I'd say it's worth a visit for a proper, enjoyable evening.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food is absolutely spot on, especially the Sunday roasts – generous portions and they've got half-size options, which is a lifesaver with everything costing a bit more these days.
-
They've got a cracking selection of drinks, and the pub itself has this lovely, cosy charm that makes it perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
-
Fun events like quizzes on Tuesdays and chess nights on Wednesdays add a nice community vibe – it's just good craic all round.
Cons
-
Booking can be a bit tricky; it might look limited online, like after 5pm, but things could turn out differently when you get there, which is a tad frustrating.
-
The operating hours seem a bit muddled across their website and other info, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises.
-
While it's moderately priced, with the current cost of living, even the half portions might feel a stretch for some, though it's still better than most places.

The best thing is they do half portions of Sunday roasts. Idk why more pubs don't do this as it would encourage people to go out more as it makes it a bit more possible with cost of living pressures for an outing.
When booking, it looked like not much is available from 5pm, but when we went, you could have turned up without a booking.
I confess on my last visit, I did a full size pork belly and was rather stuffed afterwards.
They have an outdoor and conservatory area. It looks lovely.
There's usually a bit of a wait at the bar. Staff are friendly.
I like coming to The Lord Tredegar because it's got such a chilled vibe and it's off the beaten track.
This is one of my favourite pubs ever. The service is friendly, the food is great and the selection of drinks is comprehensive. Furthermore the pub itself has a real charm. They do a quiz on Tuesday and a chess night on Wednesday. I cannot recommend more highly!
Absolutely stunning Sunday roast! Not sure why we waited so long to try The Lord Tredegar but it was definitely worth it. We had the roast beef, lamb shank with a side of cauliflower cheese. Generous portion sizes and worth the price! We’ll definitely be back!
This is my second visit to this fine establishment.
We start off with a warm and friendly greeting from the staff at the bar - Alex and Mary. I recognise Alex from last time as he has impeccable taste in music (contrary to the rest of the teams belief).
We are 20 minutes early and thankfully our table inside the pub area is ready. It's in a nice cosy cornerand there are some board games available should we fancy it.
There are 3 of us and we've come for the roast and order the Pork, Beef and Lamb individually plus a side of Cauliflower cheese.
Being from Yorkshire, I am picky when it comes to roasts. It;'s finding that triple sweet spot of quality, quantity and value. A triumphant fist pump into the air and a round of applause as this hit every part of the above perfectly.
I had the lamb roast and it was just joyful. Everything was in perfect measure and the meat was impeccable. I have zero idea how I managed to finish my plate (I am stupidly proud of myself and had a well deserved 2 hour nap in the afternoon) but I was in that 'happy-pain' where it's so delicious you can't stop eating it. We probably didn't need the Cauli-cheese however it had the perfect kick of mustard and it was perfectly cooked.
I kinda don't want to go into detail about how fantastic the other plates were as I think you need to go and try it for yourself.
Afterwards I went and shook hands with the kitchen and the wonderful staff at the bar. This place is special. If you want a Sunday roast that IS AN ACTUAL SUNDAY ROAST and not one of those loveless pub roasts that resembles a microwave meal, then this is the one. I've never had a better one in London and I've had a Gordon Ramsey one at the now closed York & Albany.
Thank you The Lord Tredagar. You are fabulous.
