About This Pub
Ah, The Lodge in Shirley – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its warm, community spirit, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the staff and the crowd are dead welcoming, always up for a chat, and it's especially ace if you've got a furry friend along for the walk. The beer flows nicely, and the atmosphere strikes just the right balance – lively but not overwhelming, with music that's easy on the ears. It's a proper cosy spot for catching up with mates over a drink. On the downside, though, I've heard a few tales of service letting things down; management can seem a bit too relaxed, leading to early closures that might leave you high and dry before the night's done. Plus, it's not the best for families, and there might be some misinformation on deals, so you'd want to verify that beforehand. All in all, it's a solid choice for a no-fuss night out, but go in with your eyes open – the good vibes usually win out, but it's not without its quirks.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff and regulars are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's a brilliant spot for dog lovers, as they happily welcome well-behaved pups, which adds to the relaxed, community feel.
-
They serve up great beer with a wicked atmosphere – not too loud, so you can actually chat and enjoy yourself.
-
The pub itself is clean and well-kept, offering a cosy vibe that's perfect for a laid-back evening out.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit shocking at times, with early closures like last orders at 9:45, which might cut your night short.
-
The management sometimes seems uninterested, perhaps because they're enjoying a drink themselves, leading to a lackadaisical approach.
-
It's not very child-friendly, so if you're with the little ones, you might want to look elsewhere.
-
There could be false info on offers, like those from Green King, so it's worth double-checking before you go.

Very lovely friendly pub, I go regularly and it's always a warm welcome
Shocking service, early closing because management are drinking and really can't be bothered with customers, not children friendly at all. False information about about Green King offers??? Pub closes too early eg 9.45 last orders, absolutely not worth visiting !!!
We stumbled across the lodge when walking our Collie. We wasn't sure what to expect but what we did find were friendly bar staff, friendly regulars and a genuinely welcoming landlord and landlady.
More importantly they welcome well behaved dogs which is brilliant because our Betty loves to socialise. Free water for dogs is always offered.
Music is on in the background too which is fantastic.
December 2023 Update. Kids of any age are not allowed in here past 7pm.
Nice place, great beer and wicked atmosphere. Everybody is friendly and welcoming even if you’re a stranger. Staff are sound gosh and friendly, the pub it self is clean. Thank to all 😎
My brother and i have been over a lotta boozers in S Brum and i really like this one. We there in Oct 2019. Its a decent place, beer, music vol not too loud, people age ranges enjoying themselves and behaving. Just an evening out in the pub is like at best. Looking forward to when the lockdowns lifted. Might have a glass at the Lodge.
