From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the beers are spot on, with a fantastic range of ales and ciders that are poured fresh from the cask, and the owner goes out of his way to make you feel at home, explaining the differences and all. It's brilliant for a solo visit or catching up with mates in that easy-going atmosphere, and don't even get me started on those pickled eggs – they're a must-try! On the flip side, it's a tiny spot, so if you're after more room to spread out, you might find it a squeeze, and the prices can add up quickly with those high-strength options. The outdoor area is alright but not exactly luxurious, and with it only open a few days a week, you'll want to check the times first. All in all, it's a solid choice for beer enthusiasts, but go in with realistic expectations for a proper micropub experience – the good far outweighs the bad, in my book.

Pros

The selection of craft beers, ales, ciders, and stouts is top-notch, with plenty of options straight from the cask that really hit the spot.
The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making it easy to strike up a chat or enjoy a quiet pint on your own.
It's got a lovely conversational atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed evening, and the pickled eggs and pork pies are absolute treats you won't want to miss.
Conveniently located near the train station, it's a handy spot to pop into after a journey, with a beer garden for when the weather's on your side.

Cons

The pub is quite small, so it can feel a bit cosy – or crowded – at times, which might not suit everyone.
Prices can be a tad steep, especially for those strong ABV brews, so it might hit the wallet a little harder than your average local.
The outside seating area isn't the most comfortable, which could put a damper on things if you're hoping for a proper garden vibe.
It's cash-preferred with a minimum for card payments, and the opening hours are a bit sporadic, only running four days a week, so you'll need to plan ahead.

Had a very good selection of ales, ciders and stouts. owner was very friendly and explained the differences in beers. If after a truly craft beer/cider then I highly recommend. Price wise.. can be quite high but you have to respect the fact these beers have a very strong abv. Will happily come back for the quality and service of this place... A***

The Last Heretic is a fairly new micropub a little outside of Burton centre, less than 10 minutes from the train station. It's a very small place, but offers a larger outside seating area in the back; the latter (as you can see on my pictures) isn't the most comfortable though. There's a tiny bar with a big guy behind it who will help you with the selection. All real ales are up on a chalk board, with ABV and price per pint. The prices for ale here are very competitive, around UKP 3.50 a pint. The beers are fresh and well-kept (in a little chamber behind the bar, directly from the cask). The good range of beers makes this a place to recommend.

A friendly atmosphere in this cool little venue. On my visit the choice of beers on was uninspiring with mediocre options which was a shame. On the 'coming soon' section there were far better options so I was probably a bit unlucky I guess.

A lovely little micropub situated nicely by the train station. Clean and tidy with an excellent atmosphere, friendly staff and really good beer. The pork pies are pretty special too.
