About This Pub

Ah, The King Henry in Rotherham – it's one of those pubs that really tries to be the heart of the community, and I have to say, they often get it right with their warm, attentive staff who make you feel like you're catching up with old mates. The food's generally a winner when it's on form, with tasty options that cater to all tastes, including some solid vegan and veggie picks, and it's all at prices that won't break the bank. They're also brilliant about giving back locally, which adds a nice touch to the whole experience. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect – there have been times when meals have fallen flat, like that disappointing steak that was more grizzle than goodness, or portions that feel a bit skimpy for what you're paying. The music can crank up a notch too, making it harder to chat over dinner, and if you're after a wide range of ales, you might be left wanting. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed night out, but I'd suggest going in with realistic expectations and maybe sticking to their stronger dishes for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and always ready with a warm welcome, making you feel right at home as soon as you step in.
  • They've got great value on food and drinks, with fresh ingredients and options for everyone, including vegan and vegetarian choices, so it's spot on for a casual meal.
  • The pub's really involved in the local community, helping out with charities and offering their function area for free – it's nice to see a place that's part of the neighbourhood.
  • When the food hits the mark, it's spot on – piping hot, full of flavour, and perfect for a relaxed get-together with mates or family.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes, like that steak, have turned up tough and full of grizzle, which is a real shame when you're looking forward to a good meal.
  • Portions aren't always generous – the lasagne might leave you wanting more, especially if you're after something hearty.
  • The music can get a bit too loud at times, making it tricky to have a proper chat while you're dining.
  • Their ale selection is a tad limited, so if you're a real ale enthusiast, you might find yourself heading elsewhere for variety.

I had a steak covered in phily sauce which was inedible. Every mouthful I ate I had to pull grizzle out of my mouth, it was embarrassing as I was eating opposite my cousin. I complained to a bar staff and showed her my plate full of grizzle , she agreed that it was full of grizzle and said that she would give feedback to the chef. There was no offer of apology or anything to compensate for the poor quality of steak which really upset me so I asked to see the manager. This manager came strutting up to our table and implied that I was lying and said that maybe this pub wasn’t the place for me. I far from expect Miller and Carter at the King Henry but I do expect an edible steak. To top it off my cousin and I had upset tummy’s for days after, a bit of a coincidence??? Some jumped up bar staff are in the wrong job and need to be educated in customer service .

Good priced food, was served with not much wait time and was pretty nice for all 5 of us. Friendly and attentive staff. Music on was a little loud for conversation whilst dining.

Lasagne was smallish and mainly gravy, not much meat. Nice staff. Good selection of beers but very limited ales. Thanks for reply. Yes I do understand on both counts. We tend to go round the corner to the micro bar for my ales then elsewhere for food but my wife spotted your advert re new menu so we thought we'd give it a go. If it's any consolation my wife's lasagne was better quality and she enjoyed it.
