About This Pub

Ah, The Cavalier – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this lovely, friendly vibe where the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, and the drinks are spot on for price and variety. I love how they've spruced up the outdoor space with that astroturf and patio – it's become a real draw for sunny afternoons or quiz nights. The Sunday lunches sound absolutely banging, with fresh, tasty food and options for all the family, which is brilliant if you're after a hearty meal without the fuss. It's also child-friendly and keeps service quick, even on busier days, which is a plus for families or groups. On the flip side, though, they've had some slip-ups with food availability; it's advertised all over, but sometimes it's not on offer, which could leave you a bit miffed if that's what you came for. There was that one review about a misunderstanding with a staff member that didn't sit right, so it's not all smooth sailing. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating overall, it's clear most folks have a great time here. If you're a regular pub goer like me, I'd say give it a go – it's got that traditional charm with a modern twist, but maybe plan ahead for food to avoid any hiccups. All in all, it's a gem worth visiting for the laughs, the quizzes, and those cracking prices.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced with a good selection of beers, perfect for a casual catch-up without breaking the bank.
  • Sunday lunches are spot on – think excellent, well-cooked meals with options for different portion sizes, and those massive Yorkshire puddings are a real treat.
  • They've got a lively atmosphere with fun events like quiz nights on Thursdays and Sundays, plus a newly upgraded outdoor area that's become a hit.
  • It's child-friendly and keeps things efficient, even when it's buzzing, so you won't be waiting ages for your round.
  • The pub is clean, modern, and has great features like a pool room, darts boards, and sports on the telly for a proper relaxed vibe.
Cons
  • Food service can be a bit unreliable; it's advertised but not always available, which might leave you disappointed if you're popping in for a bite.
  • There have been a few instances of less than ideal customer interactions, like misunderstandings with staff that could make a visit feel off.
  • The opening hours and what's on offer aren't always crystal clear, so it's worth double-checking before you head out to avoid any surprises.

A very nice pub, it's just been newly decorated too. Went again today for the second time, I've got to say the drinks are very keenly priced !

Came to this establishment with a friend who struggles with a speech impediment. Despite being one of the most sober of the group, in the lady behind the bar decided to cut my friend off after feeling she had “had enough”. She had two drinks the whole night. My friend tries to explain her speech impediment, but the lady did not believe her when she explained it was a disability. My friend then asked to see the manager to discuss it further. The manager was also unfortunately not very understanding either. Feeling frustrated and insecure about how her speech was being percieved, my friend asks her partner to take over talking to the manager while we go outside and finish our drinks before we can leave. The next morning my friend leaves a very well deserved bad review on Facebook. The manager then decided to take it upon herself to reply to said review that it was clear to her that my friend had definitely had enough to drink and that “based on how she spoke to the members of staff she would be served no longer”. She was not rude or aggressive towards members or staff at all, she simply felt frustrated and upset that they didn’t take her seriously when she tried to explain her speech impediment and we left soon after. She is allowed to show agitation and annoyance at discrimination towards a disability she cannot control, the fact the manager would even reply to make comments about “how she was speaking” further is absolutely shocking. If your staff expects to be treated with kindness and respect, they really should be practicing that within their customer service themselves. “Warm and friendly pub”. Get real!
