King Charles House 29, New St, Worcester WR1 2DP

About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The King Charles House – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you step inside. Imagine sinking into a cosy spot surrounded by tales of the Civil War and King Charles' daring escape; it's got this authentic, lived-in feel that makes every visit special. The food is an absolute highlight – folks are going on about the traditional dishes being done to perfection, and the drinks menu is a proper nod to local producers, with a great range of ales and more that really capture the spirit of the area. The team behind the bar are lovely, always up for a yarn about the pub's history or just making sure you're looked after. But, to keep it real, the hours can be a bit of a faff; you might find lunch service ends early, or it could be closed when you least expect, so planning ahead is a must to dodge any letdowns. All in all, it's a fantastic spot for anyone wanting that genuine pub experience in Worcester – I'd say give it a go, but maybe pop them a ring first to make sure it's all systems go.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got this incredible history dating back to the 1500s, making it feel like a proper step back in time – perfect for a bit of storytelling over a pint.
  • The food is spot on; think traditional pub grub done to a high standard, with reviewers raving about things like those amazing Scotch eggs.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of local ales, ciders, and drinks – all sourced from within 30 miles, so you're getting a real taste of Worcestershire.
  • The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they're always happy to chat about the pub's fascinating past and make you feel right at home.
  • It's in a prime spot in Worcester city centre, near the River Severn, which means it's buzzing with both locals and tourists year-round.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit unpredictable or early-finishing, like lunch service wrapping up at 2pm, so you might miss out if you're not timed right.
  • Occasionally, small promises like takeaway boxes don't quite come through, which could leave you a tad disappointed after a great meal.
  • It seems like the place might close unexpectedly at times, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid any surprises on your visit.

Omg so much food....all very nice but the Scotch eggs were definitely the best ever. Service was good, ashame we never actually got the box's we were promised to take food away but in all fairness we wouldn't have taken it away to carry around.

What a stunner of a pub and a unique piece of Worcester's heritage. Great vibe, service and quality. One for the special category and hope to return many more times in the future.

Great old pub with bags of history & some very well kept beers. The menu looked great too but I missed the lunch service that finished at 14:00 Cool seating options, particularly if you manage a window seat. Worth a visit if you're in Worcester 🤓
