About This Pub

Ah, The Joseph Else – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots in the heart of Nottingham that you can pop into for a laid-back afternoon or evening out. I've got to say, the atmosphere is spot on; it's warm and inviting, especially if you head upstairs for a bit more space to chat over a pint. The staff are usually chipping in with a smile and quick service, and at these prices, it's hard to complain about getting a decent meal or drink without spending a fortune. That said, it's not all smooth sailing – some folks have had issues with food coming out cold or not quite right, like overcooked eggs on breakfast, which can leave you a bit disappointed. Then there's the odd table left cluttered or the toilets that could do with a bit more attention, making you think twice about sticking around too long. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together if you're in the area, but keep your expectations realistic and maybe check the food when it arrives to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is really welcoming and relaxed, perfect for a casual catch-up with friends – especially upstairs where it's easy to find a spot.
  • Staff are generally friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home with their pleasant service.
  • It's budget-friendly, which is great for a quick pint or a meal without breaking the bank.
  • The pub stays open late and has a diverse menu with options to suit different tastes.
  • It's kept clean overall, which adds to the enjoyable experience.
Cons
  • Food can sometimes arrive cold or overcooked, which puts a dampener on things like breakfast.
  • Service might be a bit hit-or-miss, with tables left messy and it taking a while for staff to clear up.
  • The toilets can be in a sorry state, which isn't ideal for a longer visit.
  • Little things like not having straws available can feel a bit off when you're expecting them.

Met up with a group, we all order breakfast. Food started arriving and unfortunately eggs and bacon were cold, eggs were over cooked. Person from the group asked for a fresh breakfast as her breakfast was cold too. I just didn't eat the cold items. Tried to ask the lady who was serving us but unfortunately she was very busy as the only person upstairs serving breakfast plates to the entire floor. I don't think I will be coming back. Oh and you have to walk all the way down stairs to get to the coffee and tea machines, personally I have a back and hip problem so it wasn't very nice to have to keep going up and down stairs. Need more staff and floor plan should be looked at IE coffee and tea station is a need upstairs.

The food tasted great, and everything was good overall. However, it was a bit strange that when we asked for a straw for our drink, they didn’t have any.

Unfortunately this is not the best wetherspoon I visited in Nottingham. Lot of empty glasses and dity plates were still left in the tables, so I needed to put it aside and it was taked couple of minutes for the staff to take it aside. The toilet was gross, never ever go to their toilet again. But the service was fast and food was typical wetherspoon. Need lot of things to improve for this place.
