About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Imperial Tavern, it just feels like one of those timeless British pubs that really hits the mark for a good night out. It's got this cracking selection of real ales and ciders that any beer enthusiast would love, and the staff are always up for a friendly natter, making you feel right at home. The place has all the classic touches – a roaring log fire on chillier days, a bit of outdoor space for a smoke or fresh air, and even room for functions if you're planning something special. It's smack in the centre of Worcester, so popping in after a wander around town is a breeze, and the prices won't break the bank, especially with those hearty snacks on offer. On the downside, it's very much old-school, so if you're after somewhere with a contemporary twist or live music every night, it might not quite deliver. Plus, with kids only allowed until 7pm, it's more geared towards adults looking for a peaceful evening. All in all, it's a brilliant spot for sinking a few pints and soaking up that genuine pub atmosphere – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area and fancy something authentic.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Fantastic selection of real ales and ciders, with a helpful notice board to guide your choices.
-
Warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing chat with friendly staff and regulars.
-
Traditional pub charm with cosy touches like a log fire, pub games, and outdoor areas for a breather.
-
Great location in the heart of Worcester, right near buses and the railway station for easy access.
-
Reasonably priced drinks and tasty snacks like cobs and pork pies, making it a solid spot for a casual outing.
Cons
-
It has that classic, no-frills pub feel, which might not suit those after a more modern or trendy vibe.
-
Children are only welcome until 7pm, so it's not the best choice if you're out with the little ones later.
-
Closing times are fairly early, especially on weekdays, which could cut short an evening if you're in the mood for a late one.

Lovely, and iconic pub. Great Staff and lovely people to meet, especially David, Book reader and Guitar teacher. Not badly priced either. All in all, very relaxing and friendly
A decent black country ales pub, reasonable selection of real ale and nice pies.
If you're looking for a traditional gem of a pub in the centre of Worcester city, then you won't go wrong choosing the Imperial Tavern. A proper authentic boozer with a wonderful choice of real ales and ciders all very helpfully displayed on a notice board just inside the front door so you can choose your tipple before you go in. My partner who is a bit of a real ale connosuire, really rates the care and taste of the beers.
The pub has retained many original features with plenty of seating arranged around an L shape, including some more private little nooks. There's a Dart board, 1 fruit machine and 2 TVs where the latest sports events are played but chat is still very easy.
There's an open fire in the front bar area.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. Service is prompt, and there are plenty of other choices of drinks, including one of my faves, Gin with aromatic tonic. Lovely.
Filled rolls, crisps, nuts, and other bar snacks are also available.
I'm a middle-aged woman and would say it's welcoming to me.
I also recently asked to book a few tables for drinks with about 20 friends to celebrate a birthday. This was all supported with ease and friendliness.
This is not really a place for families or children, and anyone with mobility needs will have to encounter a step up into the pub.
Nearest parking The exchange car park is pay and display and still takes cash aswell as card.
A very short walk from Foregate St rail station and Worcester bus station.
Plenty of eateries surrounding the Imperial.
I recommend you pay this pub a visit. A real island of calm in a busy city centre.
Lovely friendly pub with 10 real ales on tap.
Cannot recommend enough.
The usual high standards you come to expect at Black Country Brewery pubs with a handful of guest ales complementing those from BCA
