About This Pub

Ah, The Hunting Lodge – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Whitley Bay, you know? From the moment you step in, you're greeted with that warm, homely atmosphere that's spot on for unwinding after a long day. The food really steals the show; think flame-grilled burgers and sizzling skillets that are fresh, full of flavour, and won't set you back too much – plus, they've got options for veggies and vegans, which is brilliant if you're catering for different tastes. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and on top of things, even when the place is buzzing, which makes you feel right at home. It's clear they're invested in the community too, with fundraising efforts and a free function space for locals. On the downside, being part of a chain means it lacks a bit of that quirky, unique charm you might find in a smaller independent pub, and there might be the odd hiccup with opening times that could catch you out. All in all, though, it's a solid spot for a casual night out, whether you're tucking into a meal, catching up with friends, or just enjoying a quiet pint – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, tasty grub like sizzling skillets and burgers, all at honest prices that make it great value.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and prompt service even when things get busy.
  • It has a warm, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for relaxing with mates, watching the sport, or enjoying a meal with family.
  • They're a real part of the community, supporting local charities and offering their function area for free, which is a lovely touch.
  • Plenty of parking and a nice outdoor area, making it easy to pop in for a bite or a drink without any hassle.
Cons
  • It might not have that unique, one-of-a-kind feel since it's part of a chain, so it can come across as a bit standard compared to a truly independent local spot.
  • The operating status seems a tad unclear at times, which could mean it's not always open when you'd expect, though it's generally reliable.

Visit twice for breakfast, pleasant staff, clean bar area, good food, and reasonable price. Only tried the big breakfast, which lived up to its name. Nice big car park, and nice looking out door area.

Alot of Michell and Butler pubs need to take a leaf out of the Hunting Lodge book. Prompt service, even when extremely busy and run off their feet, great food and last but definitely not least great friendly staff, not only front of house but in the kitchen. Staff always happy to adjust menu to everyones needs.
