So, I had a wander into The Crafty Wilson Ale House the other day, and it's got that cosy, unpretentious charm you'd expect from a good local pub. The beers are brilliant – a real treat for anyone who appreciates a fine ale, with plenty of options on tap that keep things interesting. The bar snacks are top-notch too, and it's lovely to see it's dog-friendly, making it easy to pop in with the pooch. The staff are dead welcoming and make you feel like a regular straight away, plus everything's kept spotlessly clean. On the flip side, it's a bit quiet at times, especially if you're after a lively buzz, and it doesn't quite live up to some of the bigger names nearby – think of it as the underdog in the pub scene. With only five days open and varying hours, it might not be ideal for a last-minute pint, and the space can feel snug if it fills up. All in all, it's a hidden gem worth checking out if you're in Monkseaton, but keep in mind it has room to grow into something even better.
