About This Pub
Oh, The Hunter S is one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper night out in London – you know, the kind where you can tuck into some seriously tasty food without any pretentious nonsense. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the Beef Wellington is a standout; it's juicy, well-cooked, and comes with veg that's actually done right, not all mushy like some places. Pair that with their straightforward menu of seasonal dishes and a solid selection of spirits and wines at fair prices, and you've got yourself a winner for a casual meal or a catch-up with mates. The staff really make it shine too, always up for a chat and quick to sort things out, which adds to that warm, welcoming feel. On the downside, it's popular, so you might end up queuing if you don't book, especially for Sunday lunches, and if you're in the mood for something more adventurous on the drinks front, they keep it classic rather than mixing up fancy cocktails. All in all, it's a reliable spot for good times and great value, but just keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on, especially that Beef Wellington – it's tender, perfectly cooked, and a real crowd-pleaser for a hearty pub meal.
-
The staff are so welcoming and helpful; they go the extra mile to make sure everyone feels right at home, whether you're sorting out a table or just chatting at the bar.
-
It's got a cracking atmosphere with cool decor and a proper pub vibe that keeps things relaxed and enjoyable, plus it's child-friendly with high chairs on offer.
-
Great value for your money, with affordable prices on quality drinks like their wide range of spirits and wines that pair brilliantly with the food.
Cons
-
It can get pretty busy, particularly on weekends and Sundays, so you'll want to book ahead to avoid waiting around for a table.
-
They're not big on fancy cocktails – it's more traditional pub fare, so if you're after something exotic like a Pina Colada, you might be out of luck.
-
The opening hours seem a bit inconsistent from what I've seen, so it's worth double-checking to make sure they're open when you plan to pop in.

Used to hang out here a decade ago! Went back for Sunday lunch yesterday and had the Wellington which was lovely and perfectly cooked, with well cooked veg that wasn’t soggy. The staff were super friendly and helpful too. And they still have the nuddy pics in the toilets 😂
I like this pub because it is different from other pubs but still has the pub vibe and because it has Aperol on tap 🤩 beautiful and efficient.
The decoration is very cool and the people at the bar super nice as well!
I come here often and really enjoy it
Really, really good beef wellington. One of my goals from while visiting London was to have beef wellington. Not only did I see reviews say this pub was one of the best for it, but it's also half the price. This was really probably my favorite thing I've ever eaten. If I ever get a chance, I'll definitely be back.
I ate the meal by myself, sparing only a few chips, but I really cannot recommend this unless you know (like me) that your daily calorie intake is well above normal.
The waitress was polite and took care of the guests. He even proposed to us to organize an additional table for us on the terrace by bringing one from the inside. He deserves it all. Food was good.
Great for a Sunday lunch or dinner. It's advisable to book in advance which we hadn't but we didn't have to wait too long for a table.
We had the baked camembert which was glazed with truffle oil plus crudités, bread and olives to share as our starter.
Then we had the Beef Wellington which serves 2 and was also delicious.
Will definitely be back for more.
