About This Pub

Ah, The Horseshoe – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of what makes a great local spot, isn't it? From the reviews I've come across, folks absolutely rave about the welcoming atmosphere; you can pop in for a pint and end up in a lovely conversation with the staff and regulars, who sound like absolute stars. The beer selection is spot on too, with a good range of real ales and other options that keep things interesting without overwhelming you. It's inexpensive, open every day from midday till 11 PM, and that cozy interior makes it ideal for a relaxed catch-up. But, let's be fair, it's not without its quirks – no food means you'll need to sort out a bite to eat before or after, and the outside can be a bit scruffy with traffic noise ruining the peace. Still, if you're after an authentic pub experience where you feel genuinely welcomed, I'd say it's well worth a visit, as long as you go in with the right expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's a proper, welcoming local pub where you'll always find good chat and friendly faces.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, including real ales, lagers, ciders, and Guinness, so there's something for everyone.
  • The staff and regulars are incredibly kind and make you feel right at home, even if you're just passing through.
  • It's cozy and warm inside, with comfy seating areas that make it perfect for a relaxed evening.
  • Free parking and a bit of a view from outside add to the convenience, especially if you're driving over.
Cons
  • There's no food on offer, so if you're after a meal with your pint, you'll have to head elsewhere.
  • The outside area can be a tad dirty and quite noisy due to heavy traffic, which might put you off sitting out.
  • It feels very much like a serious local spot, which is great if you're after that vibe, but it might not suit everyone looking for something more polished.

The best local pub for miles. Friendly staff and customers. Landlady is an absolute diamond - lovely lady who knows how to run an excellent pub. This is a proper local pub not a chain pub. The beer is always good - usually 3 real ales on tap aswell as choices in lager, cider and guiness plus plenty of top bar drinks and flavoured gin cocktails. This isn't a food pub but snacks are available. For anyone travelling in the area I would recommend this as a stop off if you don't know which pub to go to. The traffic on the road outside can be noisy in the day but it's usually quiet in the evening. Don't let that put you off a visit!

Vintage type pub with a nice atmosphere. A serious local pub. Bit dirty outside. Free parking, nice pint. You get a bit of a view of the valley when sitting outside but the traffic is heavy and it can be noisy. They have cosy seating areas and a large TV to watch sporting events.
