About This Pub
Ah, The Stags Head – it's one of those cosy spots that really grows on you, tucked away in Earls Barton. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff stand out as the real stars; they're so accommodating and make you feel like part of the furniture, whether you're just popping in for a quick pint or organising something bigger. The drinks are reliably good, and they've got a knack for those little touches that brighten your day, like a free glass of bubbly for a celebration. On the flip side, it's had its fair share of troubles, with closures cropping up now and then due to lease problems, which is a proper shame as it can leave things feeling a bit flat. And while it's got that classic pub charm, the simple setup might not wow everyone if you're in the mood for something more polished. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening with friends, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – worth keeping on your list for those times you fancy a genuine, down-to-earth vibe.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're welcoming and go the extra mile, like sorting out special diets or offering complimentary prosecco for birthdays.
-
You can enjoy a cracking pint here; the drinks are spot on and always well-poured.
-
It's a top choice for gatherings, whether it's a casual catch-up or something more, like a wake – they handle events with real care and make everything feel personal.
-
The food is surprisingly tasty for a pub, with options that hit the spot, especially if you're after simple, hearty fare.
Cons
-
It's had some rough patches with closures due to lease issues, which can be a bit disappointing if you're planning a visit.
-
Sometimes it feels a tad lost or not quite as vibrant as it could be, like it's searching for its groove.
-
The decor is pretty straightforward and unassuming, so if you're after something fancy or modern, it might not quite deliver.

I've had some great times in here over the years yet, right now, it seems a little lost. Still, enjoyed a pint in here whilst the guy over the road prepared my food.
Great barman and staff pints are good too
UPDATE August 2023.
Such a shame.
This pub is closed again after issues with the lease agreement between landlord and tenant.
After a renovation and and enthusiastic land lady injecting some life and soul into the pub , we are once again closed!!!
PREVIOUSLY.
This pub has been transformed from a very run down pub to a very pleasant and friendly place to come and drink .The landlady has invested in the essentials to turn this place around. The next step is introducing food back , which I look forward to. The Halloween night was great with music in the back and we thoroughly enjoyed the musicians playing a few weeks ago. A great asset right on our doorstep.
It just needs us all to support it .
We dined there to celebrate one of our friend's birthday. Apart from the pub, they have a restaurant section too. Very simple looking but we were the only party at that time and that was all we needed. As they noticed bday party we got complimentary prosecco which was a very nice gesture. The food was good, portions were ok. The only letdown was the heating, it was very cold. Clearly, the restaurant section is not used often and heaters were turned off. It didn't get any warmer with time and we left earlier than expected.
Booked as a venue for a wake. Emma and team did an amazing job. Couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating with special diets - there was plenty of food and it was all really tasty. So welcoming and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pub.
