About This Pub

Ah, The Highbury Barn Tavern – it's one of those classic London pubs that really captures the heart of a good British boozer, tucked away near Highbury Fields. I've got to say, it's got this warm, inviting feel with its traditional charm and outdoor spots that make it ideal for a casual pint or a proper sit-down with mates. The Sunday roasts are a standout – think juicy pork, chicken, or beef done just right, paired with all the trimmings, and it's no wonder folks rave about them. Plus, if you're into live sport, it's a buzzing place on match days, especially with Arsenal so close by. The team behind the bar are absolute gems, always on hand with a smile and efficient service that keeps things flowing nicely. On the other hand, fair warning, prices have jumped up a bit lately, and from what I've heard from a few visits, the food isn't always hitting the mark – some portions feel a tad skimpy, and dishes like fish and chips have come out less than piping hot, which is a shame when you're paying a premium. Overall, it's still a solid choice for a relaxed evening or a family roast, but you'd want to go in with realistic expectations to avoid any surprises. If you're in the area, give it a go and see for yourself – it's all about that community spirit, after all!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are an absolute treat – proper hearty and full of flavour, making it a top spot for a traditional British meal.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always making you feel welcome and looked after like old mates.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially for footy fans, being just a short walk from the Emirates Stadium for pre or post-match gatherings.
  • The pub has charming period features and nice outdoor seating, perfect for a relaxed drink or catch-up with friends in a cosy setting.
  • They offer a great selection of craft beers, cocktails, and wines, alongside modern British pub food that's generally spot on.
Cons
  • Prices have crept up recently, which might feel a bit steep compared to other local options without a matching boost in quality.
  • Some dishes, like fish and chips, have been reported as lukewarm or with smaller portions, which can be disappointing.
  • Food quality seems to have dipped a tad under new management, leaving a few meals not quite living up to expectations.

While recent changes in management appear to have brought about increased prices and a noticeable dip in food quality, including smaller portion sizes that don't quite align with the new cost, the exceptional staff remain a significant bright spot. Their genuine care and dedication to customer satisfaction are truly commendable. Despite the shortcomings in the food itself, their service was impeccable. When our meal arrived cold, their apologies were heartfelt, and they immediately went above and beyond to offer a replacement. It's their positive attitudes and willingness to make things right that prevent what could have been a very disappointing experience from being a complete loss. Hopefully, management will take note of the staff's outstanding efforts and address the current issues with food quality and value to match the level of service provided.

This pub has been somewhat "gentrified" in recent years. It's still a good pub, although you'll pay a lot less for your drinks if you walk 10 minutes up the road. It has a nice outdoor seating area at the front.

This is a lovely pub for a drink. It has good indoor and outdoor spaces. We decided to stay for food and ordered a fish and chips and a vegan burger. Both dishes came with chips, but it really wasn’t good and was a bit lukewarm. It was really disappointing. I liked the fish though. Just think they need to have better chips!

Made a reservation for the Arsenal v Chelsea match. The staff was able to switch our table so we could sit in the bar area. The Sunday roast was amazing!
