About This Pub

Ah, Jude The Obscure – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Oxford, tucked away in Jericho with that warm, inviting charm. From what I've gathered, folks absolutely rave about the staff; they're always on hand with a smile and quick to make sure you're sorted, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or settling in for the match. The food's a real highlight too – think tasty, no-nonsense dishes that won't break the bank, and it's all served up in a relaxed setting that's spot on for families or even if you've got your dog in tow. It's brilliant for sports lovers, with live screenings of everything from football to rugby, and that beer garden adds a nice touch for sunnier days. But, let's be honest, it's not without its quirks; ordering at the bar can sometimes feel a tad inconvenient, especially when things get buzzing, and the atmosphere can turn a bit lively during big games, which might not suit everyone looking for a peaceful pint. Overall, though, it's a solid choice if you're after a place that balances good value, great company, and a bit of that traditional pub spirit – I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone wanting to enjoy Oxford's vibrant scene.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious, hearty options like steak and ale pie that's both filling and affordable.
  • It's a brilliant spot for catching live sports, with a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for enjoying a pint of ale while cheering on the teams.
  • Dog-friendly vibes all the way, with water bowls and treats on offer, so you can bring your furry friend along without a fuss.
  • The pub has a charming, historic feel in the heart of Oxford's Jericho area, making it a welcoming place for families and groups alike.
Cons
  • You have to order at the bar, which might feel a bit old-school for some and could mean a short wait during busy times.
  • It can get lively with sports fans, so if you're after a completely quiet evening, it might not always hit the mark.

Always been a fan of Greene King pubs. As they are always presented well inside and out. Steak and Ale Pie was absolutely delicious and very filling, highly recommend. Dog friendly, have dog water bowls and treats. Asked for an individual burger for her, not a problem. Great staff. Great street full of restaurants. Cafes and other pubs

I took my two daughters out to this restaurant this evening. We were tossing around a couple of different options that were close to our Airbnb. The atmosphere was created by and filled with locals the service although you had to order at the bar, it was delivered by the waitress. Very friendly very engaging. It’s a place where you feel good about eating. I ordered the fish and chips and they were delicious. More fish than chips, but that was fine as well. The food was hot when it came to your table. Now both of my girls enjoyed their meals as well. I did sample the rice and it was very tasty.
