About This Pub

Ah, The Harbour Inn in Barrow-in-Furness – it's one of those places that really sticks with you for all the right reasons, but with a couple of caveats that keep it from being perfect. From the reviews, it's clear the staff are the heart of this spot; they're helpful, attentive, and go the extra mile, like sorting out parking for overnight stays or just making you feel part of the gang with their chatty nature. The beer selection is spot on, and it's got that warm, local pub feel that's ideal for sharing a pint and chatting with folks after a day of adventures. Plus, as a handy base for trips around the Lake District, the rooms are generally clean and comfy, which is a nice bonus if you're staying over. On the flip side, though, some bits could use a tweak – like the showers that swing wildly between too hot and too cold, or those pesky issues with bright lights and rumbling toilets that might disrupt your sleep. And if you're sensitive to noise, the sounds from the pub or passing cars could be a bother. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, but I'd say it's best if you're not too fussed about flawless facilities – just pop in for the atmosphere and keep an eye out for those little niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – super friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers and a cosy atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding after a day out.
  • It's a great spot to use as a base for exploring places like the Lake District, with clean and comfortable rooms that add to the charm.
Cons
  • Some rooms can be a bit troublesome with things like thin curtains letting in loads of light at night or noisy toilets that might keep you up.
  • The showers are hit or miss, often going from scalding hot to freezing cold in no time, which is a real nuisance.
  • You might hear a bit too much from the pub downstairs or the road outside, so it's not the quietest place for a good night's rest.

Drab room curtains like tissue paper thus room bright at night. Macerator toilet running in middle of night sounding like tractor. Room center light not working. Shower either scalding or freezing with only 10 seconds of medium heat. Ineed room for 3/4 nights a week so very disapointed. Only £4 more for travelodge so thats the future.

I booked here for one night in a single room. The room was comfortable enough, with a decent shower and good wifi. There was a kettle with tea and coffee, plus fresh towels. The room was really clean. On the down side there was music from the pub downstairs and you can hear cars passing on the road outside (neither was a problem for me). The switch on the bedside lamp was broken, and the main room light was very dim.

Great hosts; very welcoming, attentive and friendly. A lovely Inn to use as a home base whilst exploring the Lake District, and you get to come back to some nice evenings while sharing a couple of drinks with the locals. Highly recommended!

Sunday lunch. I'm finding some of these positive reviews very hard to believe. Sunday lunch for three people was a disaster. The portions are not big as people seem to claim. The quality is very low. The roast potatoes were the frozen type. The cabbage was still crunchy. Beef was lukewarm. The pork was nice, but one slice after ordering a large roast? Peas tasted like tinned. The three of us left about half of the meal and went and had something nice elsewhere.
