About This Pub

You know, when I popped into The Halston in Carlisle, it really struck me as one of those places that does a lot right – it's got that warm, welcoming feel with staff who are just lovely and attentive, making you feel like you're catching up with old mates. The food in their restaurants is spot on, all about fresh local ingredients and a great selection of drinks, whether you're in for a casual lunch or something a bit more special. And let's not forget the handy parking right nearby and the comfy rooms that make it ideal for a city break. On the other hand, it's got this energetic side with all the events they host, which is brilliant if you're up for a bit of fun, but it can turn noisy and disrupt a good night's sleep – I've heard a few tales of that happening, and the building doesn't do much to keep the sounds out. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a mix of relaxation and excitement, just keep in mind it might not be the best for a totally quiet getaway.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable.
  • The food and drinks are top-notch, with fresh local ingredients that make every meal feel special and satisfying.
  • It's got a brilliant location in the city centre with plenty of nearby parking, which is a real treat when you're out and about.
  • The rooms and apartments are clean, well-equipped, and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing stay or a quick overnight.
  • They host a fantastic range of events, from live music to private parties, adding a lively buzz to the place.
Cons
  • It can get quite noisy with events and gatherings, which might keep you up if you're hoping for a peaceful night.
  • Some folks have mentioned unhelpful staff on occasion, though it doesn't seem to be the norm.
  • The noise insulation isn't brilliant, so if you're sensitive to sounds from nearby activities, it could be a downside.

Our regular girls Rendesvouz. Be it for drinks, lunch, dinner or special events, this place never fails to impress us. The bonus is, there's plenty of parking lots just a few steps away from its doorstep. 🥂

A one night midweek stay. I wish I had an excuse to stay longer. When I find one I will be back. The hotel was easy enough to find with a large public car park next to it. If you pay the parking at the hotel you get a 20% discount. Staff were very nice and helpful. We had a big, clean, well equipped suite that everything we needed. Staying midweek we had no noise issues. The city center attractions, the cathedral and the castle are all within easy walking distance. We ate at the attached restaurant and found the food to be of a high quality and standard. This is an easy hotel to recommend.

We were two guests and stayed midweek, two nights, Wednesday to Friday in a deluxe two bed, two bathroom apartment - room 204. We checked in with Dee on reception/concierge who was super friendly, polite and very helpful, also offering to book us a table for that night in the hotel restaurant, Penny Blue - all the food was amazing - scallops, cheese soufflé, steaks and apple crumble. Attentive and friendly service by Olivia. Our apartment was spacious and beautifully decorated with lots of personal touches. Milk and butter in the fridge, crumpets with preserves. Dualite toaster and kettle with Nespresso coffee pod machine. Full size dishwasher. Two suitcase racks. Wardrobes and drawers - all perfect. Breakfast also in the hotel, this time in Barton’s Yard. Hot coffee, toasted roll with sausage and eggs benedict. Absolutely amazing hotel with polite, helpful and courteous staff. Only one thing to consider is the internet, it is slow/intermittent and does not download particularly well. However, we would still recommend staying at The Halston 100 per cent.

I only use the small coffee shop attached but the service and value are consistently excellent. A small selection of light refreshments but well received. Discovered whilst waiting for the X95 bus to take me home, an excellent location within feet of the temporary bus stop for a needed break from the 'wonders' of the West Coast Mainline.

A RAVE HOTEL FOR RAGERS. Horrible place. So loud! The room was shaking with noise and screams until 1:30am. We had just driven for 6 hours and had to start again in the morning. No noise insulation, rude staff. Asked for a partial refund as our sleep was so disrupted, they said they usually tell people how loud it is but they never told us when we booked (over the phone). Lady just shrugged her shoulders and offered free parking for 8 pounds. We had 2x rooms at 150 per night. Crazily bad service.
