About This Pub

Ah, Bartons Yard, what a gem in Carlisle! From what I've gathered chatting about places like this, it's got that perfect blend of elegance and cosiness that makes you want to linger. The staff are just brilliant – always attentive and friendly, as if they're chatting with old pals, which really lifts the whole experience. You'll find some cracking food options here, like their tasty sandwiches, pastries, and that afternoon tea deal which is a proper British delight, especially if you splash out on a glass of Prosecco. It's dog-friendly too, which is brilliant if you're out with your four-legged mate. Prices are fair for what you get, so it's not going to break the bank for a nice lunch or coffee. On the flip side, the hours can be a bit tricky to navigate with all those schedule entries, and it might not be the spot for a late-night session since lunch wraps up early and evenings are limited. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed day out, but just keep an eye on the times to make the most of it. I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – you might just find yourself recommending it to everyone!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The service is absolutely top-notch – friendly, efficient, and always ready with a smile, making you feel right at home.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of tasty treats, from delicious sandwiches and pastries to a proper afternoon tea that's a real treat, especially with options to add a bit of fizz.
  • It's a cosy and stylish spot with comfortable seating and a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates over coffee, beers, or cocktails.
  • Being dog-friendly is a lovely touch, so you can bring your furry friend along without any fuss.
  • The prices are quite reasonable for the quality, making it a great value for a relaxed meal or drink in Carlisle.
Cons
  • The operating hours can be a bit confusing with those multiple listings, so it's worth double-checking to avoid disappointment if you're planning an evening out.
  • Lunch is only served until 3pm on weekdays, which might not suit everyone looking for a later bite.
  • As it's more of a cafe bar, it might not have the full buzz of a lively pub in the evenings, so if you're after a big night, it could feel a tad quiet.

Hi there beautiful souls. I am very excited about this review. I just love this place. Every time I am in Carlisle for business and meetings I come at Bartons Yard. I love the ambiance. Feels to elegant and cozy at the same time.Music is at a perfect tune. Customer service is exceptional. And I just love the chandeliers over the bar. If you are in Carlisle and are looking for a place where you can commute and do some work from your laptop or want to impress your clients or colleagues with a stylish yet comfortable spot, Bartons Yard is the place. Whether you're stopping by for a quick meeting, a relaxed lunch, or just some quiet time to work, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend!

My first visit to The Halston to celebrate two friends big birthdays. We'd pre booked and reserved a table a while ago, as it's very popular. We were at the Bartons Yard end of the hotel. Entrance was via reception to ensure that those people having afternoon tea were not disturbed by hotel and bar footfall. The staff were superb and very helpful. They were also very thorough, ensuring there were no allergies. It was a Festive themed afternoon tea. We started with finger sandwiches and soup, followed by sweet and savoury mini treats. Tea and coffee were included, with fizz as an optional extra. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ample offerings. The presentation and attention to detail were exquisite. We finished off with drinks in the hotels Penny Blue Restaurant. I would definitely consider attending again. If there's a member of your group with allergies or the menu is just not their bag, discuss other options so you don't feel as though you have to miss out. You will be accommodated. There are good facilities at the hotel, and it's accessible. There's a car park next to the hotel £1 per hour, pay on departure, so no clock watching. The hotel is also only a few minutes' walk from the bus station, railway station and various routes bus stops.

Came here today for lunch . Food was exceptional and for the quality, it's very reasonably priced. We had 3 soft drinks and a tea . A flat iron steak baguette and chips. Soup and a flat iron baguette. It amounted to just under 30 pounds 💷 . Good atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely return and would highly recommend.. I saw a couple having a afternoon tea ,that looked awesome 👌
