About This Pub
Ah, The Crescent Bar – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local haunt in Carlisle, tucked away near the historic Citadel and a quick step from the train station. From what folks are saying, it's got this effortlessly cool atmosphere that mixes a bit of nostalgia with a modern twist, established back in 2015, and it's clear they've nailed the art of serving up top-notch cocktails and a solid range of beers and ciders. I love how the staff are so approachable and eager to share stories about their drinks; it's those little touches that make an evening feel special, like sniffing gins or enjoying live music on a Friday. On the flip side, though, prices have been creeping up, and it's a shame when you fancy something specific only to find they've sold out – happens more than you'd hope. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating from plenty of happy visitors, it's worth popping in for a chat and a pint, as long as you're prepared for it to get a bit lively on busier nights. All in all, it's a balanced spot that does the basics brilliantly but could do with tightening up on the extras to keep everyone coming back.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktail menu is absolutely spot on – I've heard fantastic things about their Long Island Iced Tea, and it's a real highlight for anyone wanting a proper drink.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming; they go out of their way to chat about the drinks, like letting you sniff different gins, which makes for a lovely, relaxed evening.
-
They've got a great selection of beers, ciders, and stouts, including some unique ones like Blind Pig Premium Cider and Theakston's Barista Stout that you might not find everywhere else.
-
Live music on Friday nights adds a fun buzz, and it's a popular spot that feels vibrant without being overwhelming.
-
It's conveniently located near Carlisle train station and has a charming atmosphere that harks back to a more easy-going era.
Cons
-
Drinks can be a bit on the steep side – paying over £5 for a pint might make you wince, especially if you're out for a casual night.
-
They sometimes run out of popular items, like a favourite wine, which can be disappointing even if the team apologises nicely.
-
It gets pretty busy on weekends, so you might have to jostle for space or wait a bit longer for service.
-
The food options seem a tad limited from what I've seen, with mentions of homely fare but not much detail, so it might not be the first choice if you're after a full meal.

The Crescent Bar has a great cocktail menu. I tried the long island ice tea, which was excellent. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

Love The Crescent, visit every time we are in Carlisle for a couple of Barista beers. Never found this beer anywhere else yet and it's so nice. The venue is very popular and they sometimes have live music too.
Friendly staff and customers very helpfull. Should really have given 5 stars but they ran out of my favourite wine. The staff did apologize for the inconvenience . 5 stars next visit everyone if the wine delivery arrived see you again soon
Loved this bar! Had a good old chat with the bar staff about their selection of gin. They even let us smell the different ones they had while chatting about them. Very friendly, good cocktails. Made for a very nice laid back evening 😊👍
