About This Pub

Ah, The George Inn – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a traditional British pub, tucked away in the delightful National Trust village of Lacock. I have to say, the historic vibes are spot on; imagine sipping a pint under ancient beams with a medieval fireplace in the background – it's all rather magical and perfect for a lazy afternoon. The food stands out as a winner too; folks rave about the Sunday roasts and fresh fish and chips, which are not only delicious but also offer great bang for your buck, especially when you're sat out in that lovely beer garden on a sunny day. The staff are generally chummy and make you feel right at home, which is just what you want after a wander around the village. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – there have been a few grumbles about service, like when menu items suddenly aren't available or orders get muddled, which can put a dampener on things and might mean you're settling for drinks instead. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's clear this spot does a lot right, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area, just maybe keep your expectations in check for the little niggles. All in all, it's a gem for a relaxed meal or a cheeky pint, as long as you're up for that mix of old-world charm and the odd modern mishap.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of this 14th-century pub in the picturesque Lacock village is absolutely enchanting, with original beams and a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time.
  • The food is a real highlight – think hearty Sunday roasts and crispy fish and chips that are packed with flavour and offer excellent value for money.
  • Friendly staff and a welcoming vibe make it a great spot to relax, whether you're enjoying a pint in the beer garden or chatting inside by the fireplace.
  • Reasonable prices on drinks, especially considering the lovely location, and quick service when things go smoothly add to the appeal.
Cons
  • There can be occasional hiccups with service, like items not being available or orders taken before everyone's ready, which might leave you a bit frustrated.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in some listings, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises if you're planning a visit.
  • While the food is generally spot on, not every experience is perfect, and you might end up just sticking to drinks if the kitchen's options are limited that day.

Amazing pub with amazing food... We had Sunday lunch here.. 2 Roast dinners, Beef & Chicken.. Sat outside in the sun, barely 10 mins and the food was served... Delicious... Excellent value.... Top recommendation.... 10/10

Food: we were going to have food, but they came to take order when half the party weren't at the table and what one of the guests (who wasn't at the table when the order was taken) wasn't available - annoyingly, no mention of missing items when arriving. Service: We ended up just having drinks and leaving, as service just wasn't what I'd hope for and atmosphere was a bit lacking. There were a lot of staff compared to the number of patrons -at least 5 front of house v 5 or 6 tables used, and so would anticipate a much higher level of service than that offered.

Stopped off for a pint and to relax in the beer garden. Lovely pub with very friendly staff. Beer prices very reasonable too considering location. Will definitely come for food sometime too

One of the best crispy buttered fish & chips paired with local cider. Lacock village is scenic and people are friendly. A great place to immerse oneself in 12th century pub experience.
