About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about the Sign of the Angel – it's one of those places that just wraps you up in that lovely old English charm from the moment you step inside. Tucked away in the picturesque village of Lacock, it's got this 15th-century coaching inn feel with roaring log fires in the winter to chase away the chill, and a beautiful garden perfect for sipping on a glass of wine or enjoying a quintessential cream tea when the sun's out. The food is an absolute highlight; they've got a knack for using the best local, seasonal produce, so whether you're tucking into a perfectly cooked steak, fresh fish, or even a vegetarian option, it's all done just right in a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere. The staff are the real stars here – they're so friendly and attentive, making sure everything runs smoothly without being over the top, which is just what you want after a long day. If you're staying over, the rooms are cosy and full of character, with comfy beds that guarantee a good night's sleep. That said, it's not without its quirks; the layout can be a tad tricky with awkward stairs, so it might not be ideal if you're not up for a bit of navigating, and things like operating hours could do with being clearer to avoid any mix-ups. All in all, it's a fantastic spot for a getaway or a meal with mates, but I'd say it's best if you're after something a bit special rather than a quick pint – worth popping by if you're in the area, as long as you keep those little niggles in mind.
Pros and Cons

-
It's a great spot for special occasions, like weddings, with a relaxed atmosphere that lets you unwind and enjoy the moment.
Cons
-
The layout can be a bit quirky and awkward, with things like steep stairs that might not suit everyone, especially if you're carrying luggage.
-
Operating hours aren't always crystal clear from what's available, which could leave you scratching your head if you're planning a visit.
-
As a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, it might be on the pricier side, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're watching the pennies.

Beautiful place to stay, full of character & old English charm. Great night sleep in lovely comfy bed with cosy bedding. The staff have been amazing & clearly work very hard to provide a fantastic service. Huge thanks for an amazing stay 🌟
I can't thank the staff at this lovely village restaurant , hotel enough.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left they were so professional, made you feel at home and nothing was a problem.
Maddie checked us in and showed us to our room, carrying the case for my wife, up the awkward stairs to our room,( no.4) in what seams to be a hidden part of the building going through a hidden door in the corner of the upstairs lounge. A lovely hidden room tucked away from the rest of the building with nice views down the street, a lovely bed and large bathroom. Can definitely recommend but need to be able bodied as the entrance to the room is a bit awkward.
The garden is a delight to sit and have a drink in the sun. Or a meal. During our time spent in the garden the staff were spot on especially when one of the customers was trying her best to be a connoisseur of wine. Nothing was too much trouble.
The meal in the evening was delicious. I had the hake and my wife had the lamb rump.
After the meal we had coffee in the lounge upstairs. A bonus was not a TV in sight anywhere.
Breakfast again was delicious. Freshly cooked.
A very big thank you to all on duty during our stay. It made my birthday weekend.
Would we stay again? Most definitely!!
It was a pleasure to stay in such a lovely well run home from home.
My son and his new wife celebrated their wedding at the Sign of the Angel. We booked all five rooms for the evening prior, and the evening of the wedding, and it couldn't have been more perfect. All the rooms are so quirky, and together with the shared sitting room it made for a really special experience. The inn was closed during the day so we all had exclusive use of the whole venue! We used both dining rooms, and they were both set up so guests could all eat together. It goes without saying that the food was very very good, as was the service. All the staff really are excellent. After dinner the inn was reopened to other diners so we all used the garden until late in the evening. The following morning we were rejoined by family who hadn't stayed overnight where we all enjoyed breakfast. All in all a fabulous weekend, and one which was made possible by the professionalism of everyone at the Sign of the Angel.
Wonderful restaurant and hotel! The room had tons of charms, while still having updated amenities that made it incredibly comfortable to stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast, dinner, and drinks were all top notch.
Only potential downside of the hotel is the odd layout and low door frames (due to the age of the building) - watch your head!
Had been recommended for Sunday lunch and our visit did not disappoint. Staff were welcoming, atmosphere was relaxing, and the food was as good as expected. Between us we had steak, fish, and a vegetarian Wellington, all of which were cooked to perfection. Guys, look after Ruby - you’ve got a good one there! Communicated info about the dishes, drinks, and history of the pub very well. Look no further than this place if you’re in Lacock. Just mind your head if you’re tall!
