About This Pub

Ah, the Pear Tree Inn – it's one of those hidden gems tucked away in the Wiltshire countryside that just makes you want to linger a bit longer. I love how they've nailed the whole farmhouse vibe with its rustic floors, mismatched furniture, and that lovely garden room overlooking the courtyard; it's perfect for a sunny afternoon pint or a hearty meal with friends. The food really stands out – think imaginative dishes made from local, free-range ingredients, like their spot-on porchetta or fresh soups, and they've even got their own homemade cakes and jams, which adds such a personal touch. The staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and quick service, making it feel like you're catching up with old pals rather than just popping in for a bite. But, to keep it real, if you're a veggie enthusiast, you might find the options a bit slim, and those desserts, while scrumptious, do come at a premium that might make you think twice. Overall, it's a cracking spot for a relaxed getaway or a special occasion, as long as you go in with those few niggles in mind – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh, local ingredients and seasonal menus that really hit the spot – it's all about supporting local farmers and making the most of what's in season.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, even when the place is buzzing.
  • It's got a gorgeous rural setting with beautiful gardens, a cosy interior featuring exposed beams and rustic charm, perfect for a relaxing meal or a pint in the sun.
  • They offer a great selection of drinks, including local beers and British-caught fish dishes, plus lovely rooms if you're looking to stay over for a peaceful night.
  • The atmosphere is magical, with options for events and a welcoming vibe that makes it ideal for family gatherings or a casual catch-up with mates.
Cons
  • There aren't loads of vegetarian options on the menu, which might leave some folks wanting more variety if they're not into meat-heavy dishes.
  • The puddings can be a tad on the expensive side, even though they're delicious – it might add up if you're treating yourself to dessert.
  • There have been a few minor service slip-ups, like issues with non-alcoholic drinks not being as flexible as you'd hope, which could put a small dampener on things.

We live fairly locally to this lovely pub and have been a few times over the years. I took my family here for my father’s birthday dinner last night. The weather was lovely, the pub was busy, and the staff nailed it! Had great service and the food was the best it has ever been in my experience. We sat outside in the garden and the service was still very good! Look forward to coming back again soon. Well done to the team at The Pear Tree 😊

Gorgeous old pub in a village location with friendly staff. Food is amazing and served beautifully but could have had a more vegetarian options. The puddings are a bit on the expensive side but delicious. The pub is set in lovely gardens too. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful garden setting with a casual, welcoming interior, staffed by a friendly, efficient team. Best of all – I had one of the best pub lunches in ages - Cauliflower and cheese soup, followed by Porchetta with Cassoulet. Perfectly done!

Ordered takeaway yesterday evening, great food, quickly cooked to order with veggie & gf options, not just fish and chips. Excellent value. Lost one star for service as was only told after a pint of 0.0% arrived that they only offered large pint bottles - and so left 2/3 of it undrunk.

Lovely staff, magical atmosphere, gorgeous scents around the rooms above the restaurant, pastries made on site and you can definitely taste and appreciate it, fire places are on, not too hot but not too cold (late January), furry friends allowed, beautiful booze and draft beer selection. Traditional yet unique dinner and puddings, satisfying breakfast. Fantastic 3 nights stay!
