About This Pub
Ah, The Gatehouse in Highgate – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in that charming village spot. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the team there really knows how to make you feel at home, with friendly faces like Gary sorting out the garden area and ensuring everyone's having a laugh. The food's a highlight too; think hearty Spanish-inspired tapas, mouth-watering roasts, and even some cracking vegetarian picks that go down a treat with their extensive wine and beer list – it's all about simple, bold flavours that leave you satisfied. That beer garden is an absolute winner on a sunny day, especially now it's been spruced up, making it ideal for a group gathering or even bringing the kids along. On the flip side, it does get a tad lively at times, particularly weekends, so if you're in the mood for a peaceful evening, you might find it a bit much. And, honestly, sorting out a table can be a faff if you haven't booked in advance, as some folks have mentioned waiting or getting short slots. Overall, though, it's a solid spot for enjoying good company and a great meal – I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in North London, just keep those pros and cons in mind for the best experience.

It can get a bit too bustling on weekends, which might feel overwhelming if you're after a quiet pint.

Booking can be a hassle sometimes, like not being able to reserve online or getting limited table time, so it's worth planning ahead.

We love coming to the Gatehouse. Our most recent visit was stand out due to the incredible service from Gary and Martina. We had the paella and the burger with some Sauvignon blanc. 10/10 experience all around. They have also redone the outdoor garden which is a nice touch on a sunny day! Looking forward to our next visit soon.

Gary in the garden was fantastic, so funny & friendly - he made our night! Fab paella and great vegetarian options. Gorgeous garden which you can book online - big bonus
What an amazing day we had at The Gatehouse today highly recommend the outside bench tables we were a party of 7, 2 being kids. Extremely well looked after by Gary who manages the outside area couldn’t be more accommodating especially with the kids! We mostly had roasts my beef was cooked to perfection I asked for rare:) Gary recommended a fab red wine to wash it down with, we were having such a great time that even when the next booking arrived for our table we were given another table in a secret back garden. Was so kid friendly and such a lovely family vibe we will 100% be returning!
A striking building both inside and out, this pub offers a lovely patio space and gets lively (little too lively for me though) especially on weekends.
It’s actually home to a theatre upstairs too – how cool is that?
On my last visit I went for the trio roast—beef, pork, and chicken with all the trimmings.
Generous portions and flavourful, though the beef was a touch on the chewy side for me.
Still a solid choice if you’re after a traditional Sunday roast in a characterful setting near Hampstead Heath.
Called here today for a Sunday Dinner, we tried to book online however we were unable to book, so got there more or less for it opening. We were a party of 4 adults, we asked if there was a table available, the guy says we could have a table for around 1hr 10 mins as we had not booked. We agreed and was shown to a table in the courtyard at the back, it was beautiful in the sun. We given the menu's to choose, within 15 minutes of ordering or main meals arrived. The waiting staff were amazing, friendly and attentive, we were asked if we needed extras gravy, sauces etc. We ordered Chicken Bread Sauce, Aged Herefordshire Sirloin, But and Lentil Loaf and Beer battered haddock triple cooked chips. Each and every break was absolutely delicious, presentation was great, portion sizes fabulous and the service was excellent. I really can't wait to come back here when we are visiting our Daughter again in London. Highly recommended this establishment.
