About This Pub
Oh, you know, if you're popping into The Furness Railway for a pint or perhaps a stay, it's one of those places that just feels reliably welcoming, like catching up with an old mate. From what folks are saying, the rooms are a proper treat – think spacious setups with modern bathrooms and all the essentials laid on, which is a nice bonus if you're combining a night out with a overnight. The staff really shine through; they're chatty and efficient, making you feel looked after from the get-go. And let's not forget the grub and drinks – affordable and spot-on, perfect for a relaxed evening without breaking the bank. On the flip side, it can get a bit hectic when it's buzzing, and there might be the occasional hiccup at the bar, like sorting out payments, which could put a slight dampener on things. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts looking for good vibes and value, but it's worth keeping in mind those little niggles to set your expectations right.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The rooms are absolutely spot-on – spacious, well-equipped, and come with all the little touches like fresh coffee, tea, and biscuits that make you feel right at home.
-
Staff are a real highlight; they're friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to make your visit smooth, whether it's sorting out your check-in or sharing a bit of local history.
-
It's brilliant value for money – affordable drinks, tasty food, and overall a wallet-friendly spot without skimping on quality.
-
The atmosphere is lively, especially on busy nights, and the food and brews are consistently good, making it a great place to unwind.
Cons
-
There can be the odd snag with bar service, like reluctance to handle cash payments, which might frustrate you if you're not keen on cards.
-
It gets pretty packed on evenings, so you might find it a tad noisy or have to wait a bit for your order, which isn't ideal for a quiet pint.

Great rooms, helpful staff, good value.
First time I’ve stayed in a Spoons hotel and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Receptionist Rachel booked us in, found a space for three bikes and told us a bit of the history of the place. Pub was busy - Friday night crowd - but you couldn’t hear any noise from the rooms upstairs. Good value breakfast next day, with bottomless coffee.
People who work at Spoons seem to be proud of their pubs. I’ll definitely come back again.
Absolutely fabulous hotel refurbished to the highest standard fabulous large room and bathroom ultra modern..coffee tea hot choc ..biscuits and bottles water ..cut glass tumblers ..I kid you not ..I cannot praise this hotel enough..gorgeous reception lady ..so helpful ..its a must folks .😍🥰..OK Barrow not brill but what a great stay for the Lakes..loads of parking just behind the hotel..free on Sundays and bank Holiday ..
Can thoroughly recommend this hotel. The rooms are spacious and well equipped and stocked.
We were too late to have the room cleaned but someone still came in and replenished the water and coffee/tea.
Friendly and fast staff, good food and cheap drink.
It was raining outside so we really appreciated just coming up, in the lift, to our room at the end of the night 😁
Absolutely brilliant. Went there for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. on two consecutive days. Nobody needs to tell him that he's absolutely rare value, but the breakfast was spot on and the coffee as always was delicious
We actually stayed at the hotel area. Room was far better than what we'd expected beautiful bathroom and large room. The downfall was the restaurant albeit it was enormous and well done throughout. We ordered a drink at bar and tried to pay by cash so handed over a £20 note and the young barman wouldn't accept it as we're from Scotland and it was only Scottish notes that we had with us. Good job we had a Bank Card too. We were so disappointed and just had to write a review and hope Mr Wetherspoon reads this. It's doubtful that we'll ever visit Barrow in Furness again as it was only a couple of days vaccination that we took but not too impressed with the town .
