About This Pub

Ah, The Freemasons Arms – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its charm in Norwich. From what I've gathered, they've nailed the beer game, boasting a variety of unique ales and local brews that'd make any beer enthusiast smile. Picture yourself settling in for a quiz night or catching the footy on one of their big screens; it's got that perfect mix of relaxed vibes and excitement, with board games on hand for a laugh with friends. The food's another winner – those loaded fries and dogs sound utterly naughty but delicious, and with deals like 2-4-1 on Mondays or student nights, it's wallet-friendly too. It's family-oriented, with a lovely beer garden and even welcoming to dogs, which adds to the homely feel. But, to keep it real, there have been a few grumbles about service; one chap had a dreadful time with the manager being unhelpful, and recent feedback suggests it might not always be up to scratch. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it's mostly positive, and I'd say it's worth popping in for a pint – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of beers and ales – they reckon they've got the best in NR1, and from the reviews, it sounds spot on for a proper pint.
  • Lively atmosphere with regular events like quiz nights, live music, and sports on multiple TVs, making it a brilliant spot for catching up with mates or a date night.
  • Tasty food options, especially those loaded fries and hot dogs that you can customise – perfect for sharing or treating yourself, and they've got student deals too.
  • Friendly and welcoming staff, with a cosy, family-friendly vibe including a nice beer garden and even dog-friendly policies.
  • Great for watching football or enjoying board games in a chilled setting, plus perks like 2-4-1 Mondays and match day discounts for Norwich fans.
Cons
  • Some feedback highlights occasional poor service, like one review mentioning a rude and unhelpful manager, which could really dampen an otherwise good visit.
  • Recent reviews show a bit of a mixed bag, with the average dipping to 3 out of 5, suggesting things might not be as consistent as they'd like.
  • It can get quite busy with events and sports, so if you're after a quiet, relaxed evening, it might not always hit the mark.

Very poor all round, the "general manager" was absolutely useless, rude and unhelpful, absolutely dreadful experience

Had a lovely eve here. Myself and my pal Rick popped in for a beer and found out it was a quiz night. We only went and won the quiz!!!! Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff and well kept beer. Look forward to re- visiting😀

We intended to stop for a pint on the way home but ended up staying for three. What a gem of a pub. The guy behind the bar was friendly and welcoming. Somehow I hadn't expected the inside to be quite so lovely (my last visit was 20 years ago to see Tony Hall). Lovely beer garden and interesting corners all over the pub, games, book exchange. We'll definately return.

A very nice selection of drinks. Definitely a more “family friendly” feeling kind of pub, with plenty of nice decorations and a bright and breezy atmosphere. They have tvs and regularly play sports and also allow dogs. They have a great selection of food and snacks and on an afternoon it’s a nice place to sit and relax, they have a Fußball table and comfy cushioned seats. Not a traditional sticky table kind of pub, especially when compared to the Kings Arms which is directly opposite, but it’s nice in its own ways.
