About This Pub
Ah, The Flowing Well – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper hidden gem in the Oxfordshire countryside, doesn't it? From what I've gathered chatting about places like this, it's got this lovely warm vibe that's all about traditional British hospitality, with a beautifully done-up interior that makes you feel right at home the moment you step in. The food really steals the show; people are buzzing about the tasty mains like steaks and burgers, and even the starters hit the mark, all while you soak in that peaceful village setting with the odd church bell in the background. It's spot on for a casual meal or even hosting a get-together in their function room. On the flip side, though, service isn't always perfect – I've heard tales of feeling a bit ignored when it's heaving, which can dampen the spirits a little. And let's not forget those chilly drafts on breezy days that might have you shifting tables. Overall, it's a solid spot for a pint and a bite, but going in with realistic expectations means you'll likely have a cracking time, especially if you're after that authentic pub experience with a few quirks along the way.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious traditional dishes, classic meals, and even British tapas, all served up with real care, like those amazing steaks and calamari that folks rave about.
-
It's got that perfect country pub charm, nestled in a beautiful village setting with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that's been beautifully renovated, making it ideal for a relaxing pint or a meal in the countryside.
-
The staff are generally friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and quick to make you feel at home, which really adds to the overall experience.
-
They've got a great function room for parties or events, and it's pet-friendly too, so you can pop in with your furry friend without any fuss.
-
Food's available all day, which is brilliant for a spontaneous stop, and they've got a good selection of ales to enjoy in that quintessential English pub vibe.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit or miss at times – some visits might leave you feeling overlooked, especially when it's busy, which takes away from the enjoyment a tad.
-
There are occasional environmental niggles, like cold drafts from doors in certain areas, which might make it less cosy on chillier days.
-
It can get quite full, and that might mean things feel a bit rushed or that not everyone gets the attention they hope for, even if the team is trying their best.

A real hidden gem... Some work colleagues and I stopped for some food. It was really good!
We often visit this pub as we receive a warm welcome which is important to us, in particular by Ben who can never do too much for us. The staff are all friendly and, even when the pub is full and they are busy, they make sure that everyone has the attention they deserve. Attentive without being intrusive. We will obviously be going again and recommend this pub at every opportunity. James & Marion
The 4 of us sat in the bar as we had a dog with us, which was fine. Food was delicious. We had the calamari and chicken skewers as a starter then steak for 4 which was amazing (definitely recommend). Sadly service was disappointing. We seemed to be ignored whilst the table near us had full attention. Gave up choosing a dessert.
Ordered the steak platter for 3 it was very good absolutely massive and we ordered the classic burger which my brother-in-law said was good. We sat in the room with big doors which in summer would be fantastic but the doors let a cold draft in so we moved tables which wasn’t a problem.
All round good would go again.
The seating outside would be lovely in summer.
When you think of pubs that serve food all day, you would inevitably question its quality. But this pub hidden in the middle of a village is nothing short of a magnificent experience. The tranquility of the residential vibes and the occasional church bells you hear as you enjoy its fantastic food made this trip so wholesome. Who would have thought I’d rate their fish and chips as possibly the best one I’ve ever had, even with a lot of them from many coastal destinations known for their catch of the day. This pub needs to know they are doing everything right and the chefs deserve a very well deserved salutation from a grateful customer. Thank you and please keep up the great work.
