About This Pub

You know, when I think about the Boundary House in Abingdon, it's got that classic pub charm that makes you want to pop in for a pint and a bite. The staff really stand out – they're so approachable and helpful, like when they sorted out storing a cake for someone's event, which just adds to the homely feel. It's brilliant for sports fans too, with all the live action from Sky and BT Sports, and they've got a lovely beer garden for those sunny days. The food menu has some absolute winners, especially the fish and chips that folks can't stop praising, but honestly, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few grumbles about certain items tasting a bit cheap or not up to scratch, like the chicken strips or steak. On the upside, it's super family and dog-friendly with plenty of space inside and out, which is great for a relaxed evening. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back night, but you might want to keep expectations in check for busier times when things can slow down a tad. Worth giving it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home with their chatty service.
  • They serve up some cracking pub grub, like their fish and chips, which customers rave about as one of the best around.
  • It's a top spot for catching live sports, with Sky Sports and BT Sport on offer, perfect for enjoying the big games in a lively atmosphere.
  • The pub's got loads of great facilities, including a beer garden, dog-friendly vibes, and it's family-oriented, making it versatile for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes, like the chicken strips, have been described as underwhelming and not worth the price.
  • Service can sometimes drag, especially when it's busy, which might leave you waiting a bit longer than you'd hope for your drinks or meals.
  • Not every menu item hits the mark, with a few folks mentioning the steak as disappointing, so it's best to stick to the crowd-pleasers.

We had such a great experience at the Boundary House! From the initial booking which was straightforward, to speaking with a lovely lady called Charlotte on the phone to check I could bring a cake in beforehand, which she was so accommodating and said they could store in their large fridge for us. Today 11 of us came for a birthday lunch for my 17 year old sister. We dropped off the cake and balloons this morning and Sarah & Kylie were so helpful and welcoming. When we all arrived for lunch, there was an excellent selection of drinks and the menu was also really good. We ordered our food, everything was in stock which was good, and it came out quickly, but not too quickly so we could all enjoy catching up and celebrating. The food was SO good! All of us cleared our plates, which for a big table to not have any issues I think is amazing. It all arrived at the same time too so we could eat together, a fantastic achievement for the kitchen staff. Another shout out to Kylie & Sarah, they were perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. I think we’ve found our new place for family meals! Thank you all 🙂

I have not been to the Boundary House since I was a regular in my early twenties thirty years ago. Great to go back. Looks like it has been refurbished and looking fabulous. The service from the pregnant lady and the shorter lady was excellent. Chatty, friendly and helpful. Our food was very tasty too and hot. Especially the mushroom chill. First time try of this and a hit!

Staff are always very polite and welcoming however the food was really not good at all. The chicken strips which are £8.99 were clearly frozen and what seemed like they were from Iceland with just mushy filling that wasn’t chicken at all, just really low budget. The sirloin steak was terrible too and the steak knife just wasn’t going through it properly even though it was medium/rare.

Fantastic food and service. Quick as well and really tasty. We ordered 2 fish and chips and wings. Honestly it’s one of best fish chips I had. Kayleigh is lovely and friendly. Love the atmosphere ❤️ will be back. Thank you.

Went here the other day with my parents to have a meal and a couple of drinks. A lovely pub garden with plenty of seating and inside has a really large space with plenty of seating areas and bar space. We sat towards the back as its slightly quieter at that end. The service at the bar was a bit slow, but to be expected on a Friday evening at the time we went. The Guinness was worth the wait though, a really good pint! The food was really good, fairly quick service and staff were friendly and helpful. I would visit again 👍
