About This Pub
Oh, The Fleur De Lys in East Hagbourne is one of those pubs that just draws you in with its welcoming vibe and all the goings-on. From what I've gathered chatting with folks who've been, the food's a real highlight – think tasty starters and mains that leave you satisfied, or a smashing Sunday roast that feels like a proper treat. They're always up to something fun, like jazz sessions where anyone's welcome to join in, folk nights that bring the community together, or even a bike night for the enthusiasts. The outdoor area with its stage is brilliant for catching live music, especially on a balmy evening. But, let's be straight, it's not flawless; I've heard tales of food not always coming out right, whether it's undercooked bits or dry chips, and sometimes the wait for your meal can feel a bit long, which might frustrate you on a busy night. Still, with that solid 4.6 rating buzzing around, it's clear this place has more wins than losses, and I'd say it's well worth popping in for a pint and a chat – just keep expectations in check for the odd off moment.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious, with standout dishes like crispy fish and chips or a hearty Sunday roast that really hit the spot.
-
They've got a brilliant lineup of events, from lively jazz jam sessions and folk nights to pub quizzes and even bike nights, making it a fun hub for the community.
-
The atmosphere is so cosy and welcoming, set in a beautiful village with a purpose-built outdoor area and stage that's perfect for enjoying live music on a summer evening.
-
Staff are generally lovely and attentive, adding to that warm, friendly feel that makes you want to come back.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss at times, like when the batter on the fish turns out a bit soggy or the chips end up dry and overcooked.
-
Service might drag on occasionally, with waits for food stretching to an hour or more, which can put a damper on the evening.
-
There's the odd comment about staff not quite nailing the finer points of decorum, though it's not a deal-breaker overall.

Lovely cosy pub with delicious food in a beautiful village location. Lots of fun activities organised and a purposebuiltoutdoor area witg stage.. We absolutely loved the Jazz this weekend!
Had a really lovely meal here. No room for dessert but the starters and mains were delicious & a great portion.
Staff were lovely.
So close to being 5⭐️. I had fish and chips. The chips were perfectly crispy outside and fluffy inside, some of the best I’ve eaten. The fish was very tasty but the batter was slightly undercooked and a bit soggy inside.
I’ve returned for Sunday roast. I had the lamb which was delicious. Vegetables were cooked properly, not overdone, but weren’t seasoned or buttered.
Most of the staff are lovely. Some people may not the like the temperament of one person as I witnessed. Their manner didn’t bother me.
I will go again to work my way through the food and beer.
Unfortunately I was unimpressed. The staff were attentive, but a little lacking in decorum, not a disaster. It was a hour from when we first sat, to when we received our food. The food unfortunately, just wasn't cooked well. The chips were dry, I don't know how else to describe them. I have to assume that the potatoes were either old, or frozen. Most likely the latter. The burger was well built and the beef patty was lovely and large, unfortunately it was overcooked, so ended up also tasting dry. The dessert was decent, but so simple it would be hard to get wrong, no complaints there either way. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading all the rave reviews. Because of its location, I may try it again soon to see if I just had an unlucky experience.
Beautiful pub with fantastic food, we had a slightly nervous younger member of the waiting staff but they did a great job. There's a good range of drinks available.
