About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Five Bells, it's got that lovely pub charm that makes you want to settle in for the afternoon. The food really stands out – folks rave about the Sunday roasts, with plentiful portions and quality ingredients that hit the spot every time, whether it's a scrumptious scotch egg or a tasty pie. The atmosphere is spot on too, all cosy and authentic, and it's great that they welcome dogs, so it's perfect for a casual outing with mates. On the flip side, from what I've gathered from a few reviews, the service isn't always up to scratch; you might find yourself waiting around after the mains or not getting offered extras like more drinks, which can be a bit frustrating on an otherwise brilliant visit. All in all, it's a solid choice for a meal out, especially if you're after good grub in a welcoming setting, but just keep in mind it might not be flawless every time – still, I'd say it's worth giving it a go for that classic pub experience.

Dog-friendly policy is a real bonus, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate without any fuss.
Cons
-
Service can be a tad inattentive at times, like not checking if you'd like another drink or offering water for the table.

There might be the odd wait, such as a 30-minute gap after the main course, which can put a slight dampener on things.

Visited for a Sunday roast, left full of good food, but also mildly frustrated. The staff were pretty in-attentive after initially ordering we were never asked if we wanted more drinks, no offer of water for the table was made either. After the main course it was almost 30 minutes before we got someone's attention to clear the plates and bring a dessert menu, and another 10 before they returned to take the order. The food was pretty damn good, the starter and dessert outstanding, the roast was on the better side of gastropub, but was let down by very fatty lamb, and roast potatoes that were neither crispy or fluffy. I'm not sure what was supposed to be going on with the parsnip crisps(?), but they had a texture like vegetable peelings, and a taste not disammilar. Starter was excellent, and the chocolate orange tart was rich, orangey and dense.
Visited for Sunday lunch. Scotch egg was just how I liked it and served beautifully. Roasts were plentiful and good quality ingredients
Went for Easter Sunday lunch. We all had the Roast Sirloin of Beef. Yummy! I also had a pudding of Rhubarb Eton Mess and a cappuccino. I love rhubarb but it would have been better with more traditional berries. Not that I left anything. It was still scrumptious. 😀
It is also a dog friendly pub with a jar of dog biscuits by the entrance from the beer garden.
Amazing place.. food is absolutely fabulous, perfectly cooked and good quality ingredients, the service was so friendly and efficient and the surroundings were cosy and authentic. We will be back.
Again, superb! First lunch out in the garden, oysters were excellent, battered Haddock super tasty with home made tartare and my pie of the day to ‘die for’. Many thanks!
