The Fishermans Inn, Butt Ln, Burgh Castle, Great Yarmouth NR31 9PZ

About This Pub

Ah, The Fishermans Inn – it's one of those hidden gems tucked away by the River Waveney that really makes you feel like you've stumbled upon something special. I have to say, the views are just top-notch; sitting out on the veranda with a drink in hand, watching the sun dip down over the marshes, it's pure bliss and a fantastic spot for unwinding after a walk. The food's another highlight – think proper pub classics done well, like overloaded sandwiches or juicy burgers, all homemade with generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank too much. Plus, being dog-friendly adds that extra touch of warmth, making it ideal for family days out or casual meet-ups. On the flip side, though, the food service is only on at certain times, like lunch and early dinner, so you might need to plan around that to avoid disappointment. And while it's not pricey in a bad way, it can add up if you're treating yourself to a full spread. Overall, it's a welcoming place with a friendly team and occasional live music that keeps the atmosphere buzzing, but I'd suggest checking their hours first to make the most of your visit – it's all about that balanced experience, isn't it?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The riverside location is absolutely stunning, with panoramic views of the River Waveney and some of the best sunsets in Norfolk – it's a real treat for anyone popping in for a pint or a meal.
  • They're super dog-friendly, which makes it a brilliant spot for those of us who like to bring our furry friends along on outings.
  • The food is homemade and hearty, with generous portions and options like juicy burgers that hit the spot, plus a good selection of drinks to wash it all down.
  • It has a cosy indoor bar with a lovely log burner for those chillier days, and plenty of outdoor seating on the garden and decked veranda for when the weather's nice.
  • They're open every day of the year, often with live events like jazz bands or even a DJ, creating a lively atmosphere that keeps things entertaining.
Cons
  • Food serving times can be a bit limited, mostly around lunchtime and early evening on certain days, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid missing out.
  • It's not the cheapest option around, with prices that might add up if you're planning a full meal and drinks, though you do get good value for what you get.
  • Closing times can change on a whim, which might catch you out if you're hoping for a late-night session – best to give them a ring if you're unsure.
  • The outside might not look like much at first glance, so it could be easy to drive past without realising what a gem is waiting inside.

Brilliant pub can't recommend enough. Great prices and good homemade food and a good selection of drinks. Dog friendly always an advantage. Brilliant views up and down the river. We will be back thank you 😊

Don’t let the outside appearance fool you. This is a great pub with good pub grub and terrific views. The tuna mayo sandwich was overloaded - no skimping here. Burgh Castle is a short walk from the pub along the river

If you're in the mood for a cozy pub experience coupled with the soothing sounds of a babbling brook, this is the spot for you. Nestled by a small stream, the ambiance is simply delightful. The food here certainly holds its own. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. And let's not forget about the fish and chips - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and served piping hot. Both dishes were definitely worth the visit. Service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. While the pub might be on the smaller side, it only adds to its charm. It's a great place to unwind after a long day. My only minor quibble would be the limited parking, but don't let that deter you. It's well worth finding a spot nearby to enjoy a lovely meal by the water. I'll certainly be returning for more.

Stopped at the Fishermans Inn after a morning walk for some lunch. It didn't feel like one of those places that only locals can go in to...! They had the fire on so it was nice and toasty inside. Plenty of meal options on the menu for lunch, and the portion sizes were good. Not the cheapest place to go, but reasonable. Beer choices felt a bit limited, I was in mood for a few different random ones, but the most unusual was an Adnams Ghost Ship which isn't all that unusual to find... We sat near the window where we could see the river and it all felt fairly relaxing, didn't seem to be any issues with the kids which probably helped!

Was such a surprise when we found this lovely pub next to canal. Food was proper pub food and looked all home made. Drinks were nice as well. But atmosphere that Sunday evening was unbelievable, they had a DJ as an entertainment, so all pub was singing along and dancing. Would definitely come again and bring my friends in.
