About This Pub

Ah, The Exchange Craft Beer House – it's one of those places that really stands out in Bradford, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got this brilliant range of beers that'll make any ale enthusiast's eyes light up, with everything from local cask ales to wild sours and barrel-aged stouts, all changing regularly to keep things fresh and exciting. The historic setting in the old Wool Exchange building adds such a charming, almost magical touch, and the staff seem genuinely passionate, often going out of their way to suggest something new or let you sample a few options first. They've even got monthly events like live music that can turn a quiet evening into something special, and if you're lucky, you can grab one of those award-winning pies to go with your pint. On the flip side, though, some of the pricier beers might make you think twice, especially if you're after those classic German or Belgian brews which aren't as plentiful here. Plus, with it being closed a couple of days a week, you do have to plan around that. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a good pint in a cosy spot – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the niggles!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of craft beers and ales, with rotating cask options and a huge variety of cans and bottles to suit all tastes.
  • Lovely atmosphere in a historic, grade one listed building with subtle lighting and vaulted ceilings that make it feel like a hidden gem.
  • Friendly and knowledgeable staff who are enthusiastic about their beers and happy to recommend options.
  • Regular events like live jazz, vinyl DJs, and open mics that add a fun vibe, especially for groups.
  • Award-winning pies from Pieminister available a few days a week, making it a great spot for a bite alongside your drink.
Cons
  • Some of the specialty beers, like Trappist ales, can be a bit pricey, which might put off those watching their wallet.
  • Limited options for German or Belgian beers on tap compared to other independents, so it might not hit the spot for fans of those styles.
  • Only open five days a week, with closures on Mondays and most Sundays, which could be inconvenient for spontaneous visits.
  • The kitchen isn't open every day, so you might miss out on those tasty pies if you pop in on the wrong evening.

I had an enjoyable hour here last night with an atmosphere to match. Served by Andy, a pleasant and enthusiastic bartender that knows a bit about ales and craft beer. He nominated their most popular beer (Lost in Ikea) and allowed me try another very good one next to it. I settled for two Lost in Ikea's. Friendly locals and a gem of a place, giving it a feeling of a cave bar.

Good place to have in Bradford as there aren't many. Not much German or Belgian on tap, not like Head of steam or other independents. Trappist a bit pricey ☺️. Very decent people though, great to keep this place open and in business.

Fantastic craft beer pub in the centre of Bradford. Great range of beers with about 6 different cask ales and 4 or 5 keg beers on offer. Really nice atmosphere inside. Will visit again when I'm back in Bradford.
