About This Pub
Ah, The Essex Arms – it's one of those classic pubs in Watford that really knows how to pull in a crowd with its cosy fire, great atmosphere, and a menu full of delicious choices that cater to all tastes, whether you're after a hearty lunch or a relaxed Sunday roast. I love how the staff go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, and it's brilliant for families or groups looking to unwind after a walk in the nearby park or catch up over a pub quiz. That said, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard a few tales of management not quite living up to the mark, with some off attitudes that could spoil the fun, and there are moments when service dips, like the kitchen shutting early without much notice, which has left a few mates hanging. Overall, it's a solid spot for a good night out if you're in the area, but I'd say keep an eye on the timing and maybe chat with the team first to get the lay of the land – that way, you can focus on the positives and enjoy what it does best.

I don’t know who the new manager thinks he is but his behaviour is disgusting. I came in on Friday night and not only was he just sat around leaving junior members of staff to do everything but his attitude and demeanour towards women is horrific. Me and my partner were sat near the bar and on a few occasions he made the women he was serving feel very uncomfortable. We were then sat outside chatting to this other couple and she said that he was treating her very weirdly.
We have come here many many times now but after our visit the other night I don’t think we will be returning, truly disgusting
Really good atmosphere, friendly staff with good service. Enjoyed my evening in Essex would recommend. Jason was very helpful and remembered all our orders
Rang up and told they were serving food until 8:45. Half our group ordered food via the online service, 10 minutes later, the remainder attempted to order food at the bar and were told that the kitchen had shut for a meeting. This meant that we couldn't go to a better pub to eat. The remainder had to get sandwiches from Morrisons. Not a good night out although the sandwiches were very good.
Amazing food, brilliant staff, clean and safe. Very child friendly catered for all. Drinks were cold and crisp! Will defo be returning. Well done team!
