About This Pub
Ah, The Embankment—it's one of those pubs that just feels special the moment you walk in, with its beautiful Grade II listed building that's been lovingly restored, full of character from its days as a Boots pharmacy. I love how they've kept the history alive while creating these cosy nooks like the Dispensary bar and a sunny conservatory, plus a cracking beer garden that's perfect for a lazy afternoon. The food's a real winner too; the team whips up everything from comforting pub classics to more adventurous global dishes, and from what I've heard from mates who've been, it's consistently delicious and great value. The staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and making sure everyone feels welcome, whether you're just grabbing a pint of Castle Rock beer or hiring a room for a big do like a birthday bash. It's spot-on for sports fans too, being right by Trent Bridge. But, just to keep it real, parking's a bit of a headache—it's not the easiest to navigate, and you might spend a few minutes sorting it out. Oh, and if you're heading there on a Sunday, remember they only do a sample menu, so it might not have all the options you'd fancy. All in all, it's a solid choice for a memorable outing, and I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for a blend of history, hearty grub, and good vibes.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic building is absolutely stunning—it's a Grade II listed gem with a fascinating history as a former Boots pharmacy, and they've restored it beautifully with distinct areas like the Dispensary bar and a lovely conservatory.
-
The food is a real highlight; they've got a mix of creative and classic dishes that are spot-on, from hearty pub favourites like burgers and scampi to more global options like tacos and flatbreads—plenty of options to suit different tastes.
-
Staff are always lovely and really attentive, making you feel right at home whether you're popping in for a drink or hosting an event; they've got great spaces upstairs for parties or functions.
-
The beer selection is fantastic, with Castle Rock brews on tap alongside guest beers, craft kegs, lagers, and even locally roasted coffee—perfect for a proper pint or a relaxed coffee break.
-
It's got a brilliant beer garden and outdoor spaces, ideal for soaking up the sun or sheltering from the rain, and it's conveniently located near Trent Bridge for cricket or football fans.
Cons
-
Parking can be a bit of a faff—it's not well lit or clearly explained, so you might end up wasting time sorting it out and worrying about tickets.
-
Food service can sometimes take a while, as mentioned in a few reviews, so if you're in a rush, it might not be the best spot for a quick bite.
-
On Sundays, they only serve a limited menu, which is a shame if you're after the full range of options—worth checking ahead if you're planning a visit that day.

I visit the embankment regularly with family and the food is always phenomenal. My sister and her partner are happy to travel from Leeds just to eat here. The staff are always lovely and really look after you.
Highly recommend the venue for events too. I hired a room for my mums 70th and the staff made the day special for her which the family will never forget.
Shereen and her team are fantastic.
Cracking pub, easily my favourite during our recent stay for a few days in Nottingham.
The building is superb, with the internals furnished and decorated really well and done so in the spirit of the building's origins. It has an interesting history worth reading up on. There are plenty of seating areas all with their own character, it is like a Tardis as keep finding more areas and nooks.
Great range of beers on keg and cask, and a well stocked fridge with a decent discount if taking them away - I grabbed a couple. Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and clearly have a passion for the beer they are serving. If we go back to Nottingham, this will be a must visit for us.
We didn't eat here so can't comment on food, so regard the 5 stars for food as for drink instead!
p.s. I will let you know how good the Vault City Creme is once I've drunk it!!
Visited for a wedding reception. The Buffet was delicious. Service was good, staff were all helpful and friendly. Car parking isn't very well lit or explained. We read a review about getting a parking ticket so spent 20 minutes faffing about getting one. Only to realise we could just add our car registration at the bar for no fee
Really outstanding pub serving good staples in a gorgeous setting lovely staff working and spotlessly clean nice 80's playlist on speakers and empty which is my idea of heaven I will be back better than crappy coffee shops and pretentious bars in WB 👍👍
This Castle Rock pub is great. Lots of space and lots of outdoor space some of which is covered for rainy days or shade for sunny days. We went with friends for a Sunday roast. Food took quite a while to come but when it did we totally forgot about that. It was amazing and huge! Good value for money. There were so many different veggies, roast carrots and potatoes, mash, green beans, broccoli, red cabbage and then a huge piece of stuffing, Yorkie and the meat. And one of us had the veggie option which looked good. My husband made the comment that he’d have liked it on a bigger plate but then we decided that we actually liked it all piled up as you kept getting surprises as you went down through it and the food stayed hotter. The beers at this pub are brilliant. They have a huge range of craft beers, real ales and more. We sat in the conservatory to eat then moved outside for a final drink in very slightly cooler air. The staff were friendly.
