About This Pub
Ah, The Earl Spencer – it's one of those reliable local spots in London that just hits the mark for a laid-back evening. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, which is always a winner when you're popping in for a pint after work. The live sports screenings are a highlight; imagine settling in with a cold lager while cheering on your team – it's got that proper pub vibe without any pretence. Plus, with affordable drink offers and fun activities like pool and darts, it's easy to see why folks keep coming back for more. On the flip side, if you're a die-hard real ale fan, you might find the selection a tad limited, as it's mostly keg beers on offer, and it can feel a bit subdued on quieter days. Still, for a straightforward, no-fuss night out, it's got plenty going for it, especially if you're bringing the dog or meeting up with the family early on. All in all, it's a solid choice that balances the good times with a few minor drawbacks, making it worth a visit if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's a brilliant spot for watching live sports, with loads of HD screens showing football, rugby, and more – perfect for a match day with mates.
-
They've got great drink deals and a wide selection of lagers at affordable prices, so you won't break the bank for a good night out.
-
Fun extras like a pool table, dart boards, and even a function area make it a lively place for games and gatherings.
-
It's dog-friendly and welcoming to families until 10pm, with an outside area for a bit of fresh air on nicer days.
Cons
-
No real ale on tap, which might leave traditional beer enthusiasts a bit disappointed – it's mostly keg options here.
-
It can be quiet at times, especially on off-peak days, so if you're after a buzzing atmosphere, it might not always deliver.
-
The pub sticks to a straightforward setup without much in the way of fancy food options beyond basics like Sunday roasts, so it's not the place for a gourmet meal.

Five-star experience! The sushi rolls were fresh and beautifully presented. The wasabi had a nice kick, and the miso soup was warm and comforting.
I think this place has been taken over since I moved away from the area a few years back.
It seems to have developed an entirely new lease of life. Nice pool table, couple of dart boards and plenty of screens to watch live sports.
Bar staff are extremely friendly and helpful, a good selection of general drinks available. Also, VERY competitively priced.
I don't think there is currently a kitchen in operation, however, they advertise and encourage you to order your favourite food to be delivered to the premises.
Current promotions include Free Pool & Pizza on a weekday, Pub quiz with up to a £500 bar tab to be won on Sundays!
Will continue to recommend to friends and family.
The Earl Spencer on Merton Road is a Craft Union pub offering a range of keg beers. Nothing from the cask, sorry real ale drinkers 🥴. A quiet day here but lovely people and good service. A biggish pub and a good pint of lager.
I recently celebrated my birthday at The Earl Spencer in Southfields, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Their warm hospitality and outstanding service made the evening truly special.
The atmosphere was cozy yet lively, creating the perfect setting for a celebration. The drinks were reasonably priced—especially for the quality! It’s rare to find a place that delivers top-notch service, great food, and good prices all in one, but The Earl Spencer does just that.
A huge thank you to the entire team for making my birthday so memorable! If you're looking for a fantastic pub with exceptional service and a welcoming vibe, this is the place to be. I’ll definitely be recommending them to everyone.
We went there for Sunday roast and we enjoyed the experience. We ordered the triple roast, which has beef, pork and turkey. It was very nice and you can get more potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy for no additional price. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed too. I would recommend it.
