About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Drunken Dragon, it just brings a smile to my face – it's one of those pubs that feels like a hidden gem in Chelmsford, with its fresh, scratch-made Mediterranean food that's always tasty and well-presented. The team there really knows how to make you feel at home, whether it's through their attentive service or by firing up the garden for a proper get-together. Events like live bands add that extra buzz, and the drinks selection is spot on for kicking back with friends. On the flip side, I've heard a few folks mention feeling a bit hurried at times, which could put a damper on things if you're after a slow-paced evening. Plus, with the restaurant shutting early on some days, it might not always fit everyone's schedule. All in all, it's a solid choice for good food and laughs, but just keep those little niggles in mind to set your expectations right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, home-cooked Mediterranean dishes with generous portions that leave you feeling satisfied and coming back for more.
  • The staff are so welcoming and friendly; they go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time, just like chatting with old mates.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere with a large outdoor garden perfect for sunny days, plus fun events like karaoke and tribute bands that really liven things up.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers on tap and an excellent wine list, making it easy to find something to suit your taste.
Cons
  • On occasion, the service can feel a tad rushed, which might cut into your relaxed evening if you're hoping for a long, leisurely chat.
  • The opening hours are a bit patchy, with the restaurant closed on Monday evenings and some limited times during the week, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning a visit.

Visited to see the band The Statins. Friendly staff, large pub garden and had Landlord on tap so I was happy.

Wow. Sometimes you just pick a place at random and have a pleasant surprise. The welcome, the hospitality the food, the beer and they even lit a fire. It’s really fun to find a great pub that just makes you feel at home. I would recommend and will go back.

Nice pub with spacious dining area. The food was very tasty and nicely presented. Good sized portions most our party had lamb roast I had a burger meal with two patties and it was really good. Couldn't help feeling rushed though and would have like to have stayed longer and chatted with family. Still recommend though.
