About This Pub

Ah, the Fox & Hounds – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the food really steals the show; think ample portions of well-cooked classics like steak and sea bass that leave you smiling, and they've even got fun touches like letting you sample new desserts. The staff are an absolute delight, always helpful and making sure everything runs smoothly, whether it's for a family meal or something like a wake – they've handled that with real compassion. It's got that feel-good vibe, with a clean, presentable space that's perfect for relaxing with a pint or catching up over a quiz night. On the flip side, it does tend to be on the quieter side, which is brilliant if you fancy a peaceful chat, but it might not hit the spot if you're in the mood for a more energetic crowd. All in all, it's a solid spot for good, honest pub grub and a bit of community spirit, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area for a laid-back evening.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious with generous portions that leave you feeling satisfied, like that perfectly cooked steak or the tasty fish and chips.
  • Friendly and helpful staff who make you feel right at home, treating everyone like family and going the extra mile for events and celebrations.
  • A lovely, welcoming atmosphere in a clean, cosy country pub that's perfect for unwinding, enjoying a quiz night, or gathering with loved ones.
  • Great variety on the menu, including fresh options for breakfast, roasts, and even gluten-free choices, plus fun events like sampling new desserts.
Cons
  • It can be a bit quiet at times, which is nice for a chat but might not suit if you're after a more lively, buzzing pub scene.
  • As a smaller venue, the options might feel a tad limited compared to bigger places, though it's still got plenty to offer for a relaxed visit.

Nice small country pub with a good atmosphere. Choice of beers, friendly helpful staff with a very good menu serving very ample portions. A pub our walking group are always happy to visit.

The food here is so good. The pub is quiet so Dad could hear me talking to him for a change 😆 I had steak and it was perfectly cooked to my liking. Presentation was beautifully done & the chops were the best if had in a very long time. Mum had the sea bass and she declared it the best meal she has had in a long time. Dad had the chicken wraps and really enjoyed them so all in all it was a good find & we will be back definitely!

We recently had my Dad’s wake at the pub. We met with Charlie, the landlord, and Craig the chef to discuss our requirements. Both of them couldn’t have been more accommodating and indeed compassionate at such a sad time. On the day of the wake everything went very smoothly. Everything was ready by the time we came back from the crematorium. The food was all very good, lots of it and what we agreed. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful and what was a sad day was made so much easier by everything running like clockwork. We had never used this pub before, however we will definitely be back to enjoy the great food offered from the huge menu. A very huge thank you to Charlie and Craig, and indeed all of the staff at the Fox and hounds who made the event a special one.

We came in for lunch. It's a nice pub clean and presentable. The menu is what you'd expect from a pub, and the delivery time of the food was sufficient and well presented. The fish and chips and ham egg and chips were plentiful and really tasty. The child's chicken strips and chips were good, too. The staff was nice enough, maybe not as engaging or as smiley as you'd like, but she was on her own and a bit tiered. The bar area wasn't that big, but the garden and dining area was a decent size. Parking was a bit tight when it got busy but free. It's a good pub for the locals 👍 Prices very reasonable too.

We have been here so many times and never get fed up with it! Food is absolutely delicious with loads of options. Lovely staff and atmosphere, can't fault it. Chef even let us sample his new chocolate biscoff dessert on Sunday - oh my word what a treat, can't wait until it's permanently on the menu. Highly recommend for grub or just a beer in the garden.
