About This Pub

Ah, The Downham Tavern – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that really captures the essence of a good old British local. I reckon it's got plenty going for it if you're after a relaxed spot with friendly faces; the staff seem top-notch, always making you feel at home, and the drink prices are spot on for keeping things affordable without breaking the bank. Plus, with weekend entertainment and a mix of eclectic tunes, it could turn into a lively little hub for a casual evening. On the flip side, though, it's not without its drawbacks – some have mentioned it feeling a tad exclusive, like if you're not a familiar face, you might get a few curious looks or even a grilling, which isn't the most inviting for first-timers. And let's be honest, it's more about the basics here; no fancy grub on offer, so you might just be nursing a pint and wishing for a bite to eat. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're local or up for a no-frills night with a bit of history, but maybe give it a miss if you're seeking something more polished.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a proper community spot
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, with pints like Fosters at just £4 – great for a budget night out
  • They've got weekend entertainment and an eclectic music choice that adds a fun vibe
  • There's a nice touch of history, like plaques commemorating past owners, which gives it character
Cons
  • It can feel a bit cliquey if you're not a regular, with some folks getting the side-eye or questions just for dropping in
  • No food options mentioned, so you might end up just sticking to drinks and feeling a tad peckish
  • It's not the fanciest place – some have called it basic or not up to modern standards, which might put off those wanting something posh

Please avoid this pub as it is so clicky, I walk into this pub for a quite drink and started to get looked at because I'm not a regular, one guy approached me while I was at the bar and ask me what police station am I from, I said I'm not from any police station. Then, as I was going to the toilet, another guy passed me and said go back to Bromley police station. I could see a few of these people going around the pub talking, pointing, and staring at me. I did inform the landlady. Clearly, these people in the pub have something to hide or they are just trouble makers. I didn't like this atmosphere and being treated like that. Please do not go to this pub if you want to have a quite relaxing drink.

I was on a trip down to London so thought I'd come to visit the famous pub my Dad's Uncle used to run. I was delighted to see a plaque with his name on the wall, sent a pic back to the family in Arbroath, Scotland.

Locals pub but welcoming to new visitors. Reviews claiming this place is dark, dank and dirty are absurd. It's not the Ritz but a decent pub, enjoyed the eclectic music choice.
