About This Pub
Ah, The Dovecote Pub & Carvery – it's one of those places that really captures the heart of a traditional British boozer, tucked away in West Bromwich. From the reviews I've seen, it's got its strengths for sure; the carvery can be an absolute treat when everything's spot on, with meats that are tender enough to make your day and prices that won't break the bank. The staff come across as proper lovely, always up for a bit of banter, and it's a great spot to pop in for a pint or catch up with friends over a game of poker. That said, it's not all roses – some have had a rough time with the food, mentioning it tasted off or was just plain flavourless, which is a real shame for a carvery-focused spot. Then there's the toilets, which sound like they need a good sort-out, and drinks that feel a bit steep for the neighbourhood. All in all, if you're up for giving it a go, I'd say head there for the grub and the warm welcome, but keep your expectations in check for those little niggles. It's a mixed bag, but that's pub life for you!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The carvery is a real highlight when it's on form, with perfectly cooked meats that just melt in your mouth and excellent value for a hearty meal.
-
Staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's got that classic Black Country pub vibe, perfect for a casual night out or social events like poker, with plenty of parking and easy access.
-
Overall, it's a solid spot for a good-value meal and a chat with mates, especially if you're after traditional fare.
Cons
-
Some folks have had disappointing experiences with the food, like dry meats, lumpy gravy, and a weird tang that leaves you wanting more.
-
The toilets are in a bit of a state, feeling outdated and not up to scratch on the hygiene front.
-
Drinks can be overpriced for a local bar, with shots costing a fair bit more than you'd expect in the area.
-
The interior might come across as a tad dingy, and there have been complaints about annoying flies buzzing around, which can spoil the atmosphere.

One of the best carverys Everything cooked to perfection Beef melted in your mouth Excellent value Definitely be going again Staff pleasant and polite In all a good experience definitely recommend
Terrible place the toilet are like back in the 50ish no health and safety at all the top shelf shots are more expensive than in town it’s local bar how can you charge £7 for shot Im definitely telling my friends and family it’s robbery place to go don’t go there I can’t believe they charged so much my local for double is £4. I can’t believe this place is not shut down yet I think health and safety inspections should pay a visit there if not for public health and safety I will call them
Seen so many good comments about this place, so thought it must be good. Unfortunately we was really disappointed and will definitely not be returning.
Sorry to say the food was horrible, had a weird tang to it and flavourless. Lumpy gravey, dry old meat, small portion and just a complete let down, inedible and definitely don't have the mint sauce. Awful!
The pub itself is run down, abit dirty to be completely honest.
Perfect Black Country pub. Went there to play poker on a Thursday night. Lovely people, all welcoming and good to chat to. Good food, including genuine Chinese fare. Staff were friendly and helpful. Copious parking, easy access. From other peoples' stories, I was expecting good things from The Dovecote and I was not let down. I'm led to believe that it can get busy on Sundays, but there's a lot of space, so go and enjoy yourselves.
Came to this pub to have a beer. Can't comment on how the food was as I'm not generally a carvery fan and didn't try it, but there were a few annoying flies buzzing around inside which would've put me off anyway.
Lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming. The place itself was quite dingey inside. There was an outdoor area though, which looked ok in the sunshine.
Good sized carpark, so no inconvenience if visiting by car.
