About This Pub

Ah, the Gough Arms – it's one of those pubs that just makes you want to pop in for a pint and end up staying for the evening. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are genuinely welcoming and go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time, whether you're there for a casual drink or a full meal. The food really shines, particularly that Sunday carvery; folks rave about the tender meats and perfectly done roasties, making it a go-to for a proper family get-together. Plus, with the dog-friendly policy and a smashing beer garden, it's ideal for those sunny afternoons with your mates or even your four-legged companion. On the flip side, though, some of the smaller items like desserts can seem a tad steep, so you might want to budget accordingly to avoid any surprises. Overall, it's a solid spot in West Bromwich that strikes a nice balance between lively events and relaxed vibes, and with such positive feedback from regulars, I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone looking for a good, honest pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and so friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The atmosphere is always buzzing and welcoming, with something going on for everyone, whether it's events or just a relaxed vibe.
  • The food is spot on, especially the Sunday carvery – tender meats, a good selection of veg, and those crispy roast potatoes are a real treat.
  • It's a fantastic spot for families and even brings your furry friends along, as it's dog-friendly throughout.
  • They've got a lovely pub garden where you can enjoy drinks and meals outdoors, perfect for soaking up the sun with mates.
  • A wide range of drinks on offer, from draught beers to cocktails, and it's a real community hub with regular events to keep things lively.
Cons
  • Some items on the menu, like desserts, can feel a bit pricey – for example, a small scoop of ice cream coming in at £4.50 might raise an eyebrow.
  • It's currently listed as closed, so you might have to check the opening times to make sure you're not caught out, though it seems to be open most days from midday.

I come in every Saturday and the atmosphere is always amazing everyone is so friendly. The gaffa is absolutely lovely and so friendly. Honestly I wouldn’t go anywhere else round here. There’s always something. Honestly there’s something for everyone in here!

Came to the pub a few Sundays ago for a carvery with the family, absolutely gorgeous food meat was tender with a good selection (turkey, gammon beef) a range of veg and beautiful soft, fluffy and crispy roast potatoes! Would highly recommend you try the carvery. Family friendly place staff are very polite and helpful, overall one of the best pubs I’ve been to in a long time will definitely be back soon.

Just held my husbands surprise 40th birthday at the Gough Arms. We don’t live in the area anymore but all of his family live there. The staff were so helpful in getting the party organised from afar, they couldn’t have done anymore to make sure the day went smoothly. I had to call multiple times to check various things and the staff were just as polite and accommodating every time. Including allowing me to have a bouncy castle set up in the garden. On the day, everything was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble, even a slight hiccup with a forgotten food item for the buffet was immediately rectified. The garden area is huge. The venue is clean. The buffet was generous. The staff are professional and friendly. We had a perfect celebration and I would urge anyone considering whether or not this is a good venue to hold their party, to stop their search. It was a truly perfect day, everyone loved it. Thank you Gough Arms.

First time I'd been to the Gough Arms since 2001 went there to see a tribute singer. The bar man bless him arranged an additional table as I said there will be 6 of us. It seemed no trouble to him and he made us feel welcome. The other staff pleasant and helpful. It made a lovely change and my parents enjoyed there evening out.

Great service and atmosphere we enjoyed our carvery today. My only gripe was that my mum was charged £4.50 for 3 small scoops of ice cream and sauce which considering the dessert cakes were £4.99 each, thought this was a bit steep.
