About This Pub

Ah, The Dolphin – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the inside out, you know? From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the food is a real highlight; those Sunday roasts are spot on, with juicy beef and pork that's tender and full of flavour, paired with fresh trimmings that make it feel like a proper treat. The service is top-notch too, with staff going the extra mile to sort you out, whether it's finding a good spot for the game or helping with event bookings. If you're after a stay, the rooms sound lovely – comfy beds, powerful showers, and all the mod cons to make your visit smooth. It's ideally placed in Newbury's centre, so you can nip in after a wander around the shops or the cinema. On the downside, a few have mentioned the breakfast room getting a bit nippy, which could be a bother on cooler days, and it's a tad frustrating that the opening times aren't spelled out clearly online. All in all, it's a solid spot for a laugh with mates or a quiet meal, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep those little things in mind for the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think succulent Sunday roasts and tasty burgers that hit the spot every time.
  • The staff are so welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a pint or watching the footie.
  • If you're staying over, the rooms are a treat with comfy beds, great showers, and all the little touches that make for a relaxing night.
  • It's in a brilliant spot in the heart of Newbury, close to shops, the cinema, and even the racecourse, perfect for a day out followed by a drink.
  • They've got loads of space for events, like private dinners or birthdays, with options to tailor menus for your group.
Cons
  • The breakfast area can sometimes feel a bit chilly, which might put a dampener on your morning if you're staying.
  • It's a shame the operating hours aren't clearly listed, so you might have to double-check before heading over to avoid any surprises.

Went for Father’s Day for a Sunday Roast, the roast was delicious the beef and pork was succulent and all the trimmings were top notch. Plenty of food and everything was fresh and hot. Great value for money in my opinion.

Fantastic town centre pub! Excellent customer service, great beers and delicious food. A group of friends met here to watch the football and the staff positioned us in an appropriate spot to watch the game. Burgers were tasty and beers similarly so! Definite favourite spot in town!!

This a fantastic pub, whether you are meeting friends for a few drinks, having a good meal or having a party. We booked the Garden Room for my Dad's 90th birthday, the food was delicious and plentiful and the staff were very helpful. (I've not stayed at the pub so cannot comment on the rooms.)

Stayed here for couple of nights during Christmas holidays. Staff were super friendly but just a few observations that would have made my stay more enjoyable. The breakfast room was quite cold when we came down at about 9am. We were the only guests at that time and the cleaning lady kindly arranged to have the heating turned up. The chef turned up shortly after and offered to cook eggs for us which we eagerly accepted as it took some time for the room to heat up. We noticed there was a tv screen but no remote to switch it on so the atmosphere was a little too quiet considering it was the Christmas holidays. On the second morning, again the room was cold and we were joined by a second couple but still the atmosphere was too quiet. The heating was not turned up this time. As for the room itself, the bed was very comfortable, kettle with tea and coffee were provided. However, I found there was limited shelf space in the bathroom and I couldn’t keep all my toiletries in there. A box of facial tissues in the room would have been useful. Free car park was a bonus. However, not sure I will stay here again but can’t fault the friendliness of the staff.
