About This Pub

Ah, The Coopers Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Newbury, you know? I popped in for a pint and was chuffed with how affordable everything is; it's a real treat for the wallet compared to some of the flashier spots around. The vibe is spot on – relaxed, with a mix of regulars and newcomers all chatting away, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. You've got a good range of beers, whiskies, and gins to choose from, plus fun extras like the pool table and jukebox that keep things entertaining without it turning into a madhouse. On the downside, it's a shame they only do bar snacks, so if you're peckish for something more substantial, you might need to plan ahead. And the hours can be a bit tricky to pin down, which is a minor annoyance if you're trying to pop in on a whim. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening with mates, offering that classic pub charm without the pretence.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer here is cheaper than at most other pubs, which makes it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly night out.
  • It's got such a welcoming, chatty atmosphere where you can easily strike up conversations with new folks – perfect for making mates.
  • The selection of beers, whiskies, and gins is spot on, giving you plenty of choices to suit your taste.
  • With a pool table and jukebox on offer, it's a fun place for a casual get-together and keeps things lively without being overwhelming.
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and friendly, adding to that warm, old-school pub feel that makes you want to linger.
Cons
  • There's no proper food on the menu, just bar snacks, so if you're after a full meal, you'll have to head elsewhere first.
  • The opening hours can seem a bit inconsistent or confusing, which might put a dampener on spontaneous visits.

Very cosy pub, open late so it's a great 'barmans bar'. Landlord is very friendly and the crowd are very laid back. Nice selection of beers including ales and some pretty nice gins. Always a pleasant visit, especially on a sunday after work.

This place is absolutely perfect. It's a cheap, oldskool, family run pub, in the middle of town. Service is excellent and the price is low. One of the few remaining classics. It's not yet another "premium bar" that there are far too many of in Newbury. It knows exactly what it is and that's great in my opinion. 50p pool table and it's excellent too!!!!
