About This Pub

Ah, The Puss in Boots – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of a good old British local, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this welcoming atmosphere where the staff go out of their way to make you feel at ease, and the beer is reliably well-kept, which is always a win for us pub lovers. I love how it's dog-friendly too; it's those little touches that make a place stand out. On the flip side, it's not without its flaws – a few folks have mentioned it needs a thorough tidy-up, and there were gripes about some staff not being the cheeriest or the wine not being served quite right. Still, with an overall rating of 3.9, it's clear that most people have a good time here, especially if you're after a straightforward spot for a drink and some banter. If you're popping by, I'd say go for the beer and the vibe, but maybe skip the wine or food if you're picky – that way, you'll likely have a cracking visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got that classic pub layout and vibe that's just perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates – lively but still cosy.
  • The beer is well-kept and spot on, with options like Ossett Ale that hit the spot for any proper pub enthusiast.
  • They're super dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out with your furry friend, offering water and a warm welcome inside and out.
Cons
  • The place could do with a good deep clean; it's a bit scruffy in spots, which might put some folks off.
  • There have been complaints about the bar staff being miserable at times, which can dampen the atmosphere.
  • Watch out for the wine – it's been described as warm, so it might not be the best choice if you're after something chilled.
  • Food-wise, it's not everyone's cup of tea; one person mentioned they wouldn't fancy eating there based on the state of things.

Went in for a drink whilst passing through. Awful place, whole pub needs a deep clean, bar steward scruffy and miserable and warm wine. Wouldn't like to eat here.

Called in here with a friend ..good local boozer, classic sort of layout. People and staff were pleasant enough. Beer was standard but well kept. There was a group in from a barge trip, it was quite lively but still friendly. We didn't eat here.

I sometimes try new places and am disappointed. This time I was delighted. I was tempted in by the mention of scallops on a black pudding mashed potato on the boards outside. Inside I asked what dark ales they had and took a Theakstons Old Peculiar. Excellent. As a starter I took the goats cheese in panko, which came with a surprising pickled onion garnish. This too was excellent. Then the scallops, and yes, they were excellent. The staff and owners worked very hard to accommodate the needs of the next table, it seemed like literally nothing was too much trouble. As they made great efforts to please, I enjoyed a baked New York Cheesecake. Yum. The new owners here are working incredibly hard to make this a truly exceptional place to eat and drink. Don't delay, get here and enjoy it while you can. It's amazing!
