About This Pub
Ah, The Dog and Partridge – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away on Brentwood Road. From chatting about the reviews, it sounds like they've really got the food side nailed these days; folks are raving about the amazing meals, especially for family dinners or a relaxed Sunday roast. The beer garden is a real highlight too – imagine sitting out there with a pint, enjoying the sunshine after a satisfying bite. The staff come across as genuinely warm and attentive, which makes popping in for a drink or a meal feel like catching up with old friends. On the flip side, there was that one tale of a mix-up with the bar service, like serving a Stella in the wrong glass, which might leave you scratching your head if you're particular about those details. And while it's open every day from around 11 until 10 at night, the lack of a website makes it a tad old-school for checking things out beforehand. Overall, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – the positives far outweigh the little gripes, and it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely spot on – from what I've heard, it's fresh, tasty, and a real step up from your average pub grub, making it perfect for a family meal or a casual catch-up.
-
The staff are lovely and welcoming, always polite and ready with a smile, which really adds to that cosy, homely feel.
-
There's a beautiful beer garden that's just ideal for soaking up the sun after a hearty meal, especially on a nice day.
-
Portions are generous and it's great value for money, so you won't leave feeling short-changed.
-
The atmosphere is spot on – it's friendly and relaxed, making it a top spot for a good old chinwag with mates.
Cons
-
There have been a few grumbles about service inconsistencies, like getting the wrong glass for a pint, which can put a bit of a dampener on things.
-
It seems like they've had some ups and downs in the past with food quality, though it sounds like they've sorted that out now, but it's worth keeping in mind if you're expecting perfection every time.
-
No website or online presence means it's a bit tricky to check menus or book ahead, which might be a hassle for planning a visit.

Had a lovely dinner for Father’s Day with the family. The new chef served amazing food, would 1000% recommend for dinner with the family. Beautiful beer garden to sit in and enjoy the sun after a big meal too
Thank you!
Hi all !
Just a small comment that always shows the quality of the establishment
1 - pint of Stella artois please and two other pints
Stella was poured into a "fosters" glass ? Why ?
When questioned can i have correct glass in which complements the drink - the incompetent bar staff replied or barked
Tell your friend that all our glasses have been stolen- in a unfriendly manner- why does this happen for 1 reason as I previously stated
Incompetent due to not addressing the punter in the correct manner
And do your job effectively as to stop your glasses being stolen as you clearly aren't focused on your work and your mannerism to what you think is - Joe public 😉
Ps 1 question?
Why is Stella artoiso advertised in the correct glass as a multi million pound company?
And you are a barmaid !
With a unfriendly attitude !!!
Lovely food, great atmosphere and very polite/friendly staff. Highly recommend. Many thanks 😊
This small pub has really turned it around. A few months ago I went in there and the food was inedible and the serving were very small. However I came here recently and it is quite honestly amazing. It is definitely not the food that you’d expect from any pub in Essex. They make awesome food and have a big menu with a new and very nice decoration and very kind staff. Additionally we went there multiple times and the food was constiently good with everything on the menu spot on. Would highly recommend this pub for everyone stopping by.
Friendly pub made welcome.
Food was excellent and large in portions.Good value for money.Shame this pub ain’t on our doorstep.
