About This Pub
Ah, The Deer's Head – it's one of those spots in Belfast that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? I've heard from folks who've been there that the beer is an absolute standout, brewed right on site with Bell's Brewery, and you can even watch the process while you're sipping away. The atmosphere is spot on for a good chat or enjoying some live music, and the staff are those friendly sorts who make you feel like you're catching up with old pals. The food's pretty decent too, with hearty options that satisfy without fuss. But, to keep it real, it's not all perfect – the menu doesn't have a huge range, so if you're in the mood for something fancy, you might be out of luck. Prices can sting a bit more than your average pub, and there've been tales of reservation mix-ups that leave you standing about, which isn't ideal on a busy night. Overall, it's a solid choice for a fun evening, especially if you're into craft brews and a bit of entertainment, but just go in with your eyes open to those little niggles.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is top-notch, with their on-site Bell's Brewery offering a fantastic range of craft brews that really hit the spot.
-
The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, perfect for catching up with mates over a pint, especially with regular entertainment like ukulele jams and trad sessions.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food hits the mark with solid pub classics like beef and Yorkshire pudding, and it's all served up in a cosy setting.
-
It's conveniently located in Belfast city centre, making it an easy stop for a quick drink or a full evening out.
Cons
-
The menu is a bit limited, so if you're after a wide variety of options, you might find yourself wanting more choices.
-
It can be on the pricier side, which might make you think twice if you're just popping in for a casual pint.
-
There have been a few gripes about table reservations, like being asked to move early even if your time hasn't started, which can put a dampener on things.

We had a good pub experience. They have a very basic menu with limited options but good options. The beef with the Yorkshire pudding was good. Their beer options were good. Overall a good experience but a little pricier.
Great service & great atmosphere! I have family and friends visit me from the US and this is my go-to place to take them for a great time, the food is excellent, beer is excellent, they pour a perfect pint of Guinness and there’s always a great variety of entertainment, but above all- THE STAFF ARE MAGNIFIQUE!!
Really poor. We walked in and there was a table with a 6.30pm reservation sign and it was 5.40pm. We sat down. Waitress came over and asked us to get out because it's reserved. We pointed out it's still 50 minutes , they said yes but would still need to "clean the table". So we stood to the side. 5 minutes later 2 men sat at the table. Same thing happened. They argued its still ages, so the manager "with thick eyeliner" said its my bar and I'm asking you to go. She called the door men. Got the guys out. We said it's free for another 35 minutes. Door man said "i know, but we've been told to do this". Terrible. That table sat there for 50 minutes! Poor buisness choice. Manager was very bad, no repor with customers.
Went in search of a Roast before catching a flight back to England - absolutely amazing. Service was fantastic, food was amazing and price wasn’t too expensive either! Would 100% recommend!
Visited on a chilly, wet Sunday afternoon. Really lovely pub, staff were attentive and friendly. Lovely booth to watch the world go by. Really liked the light switches - able to get attention, reorder drinks, etc. without going to the bar. Very handy (not that we needed it, the servers were very present)! The wide in-house brewed beer selection was a good temptation to visit, but the big draw is the food - a revelation, easily the best roast dinner I’ve had in Belfast. The collaboration with Urban Scullery (whose lead chef was a Masterchef UK finalist) is clearly working well. Piping hot, tonnes of flavour, generous portions and reasonably priced. Knocked off one star for ambience as I wasn’t expecting to eat dinner with the footie on in the background, but it is a pub so that’s on me. In general, can’t ask for more and will certainly be back and recommending to all.
